I George H. Bishop of Hermitage Cove in the Electoral District of Fortune Bay in the Island of Newfoundland Clerk in Holy Orders make oath and say:
that I believe the paper writing hereto annexed and marked by me to contain the true and original last Will and Testament of William Matchem late of Gaultois in the Electoral District of Fortune Bay in the Island aforesaid, Planter, deceased; and that I will well and faithfully administer the estate and effects rights and credits of the said deceased by paying his just debts and the legacies contained in the said Will and by distributing the residue of the said estate and effects, rights and credits according to law: that I will exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said estate and effects, rights and credits, and render a just and true account thereof, whenever required by law so to do: that the said deceased at the time of his death, had a fixed place of abode in the Island aforesaid, and, that the gross value of the said estate and effects, rights and credits of the deceased is two thousand dollars and no more, according to the best of my knowledge, information and belief.

We Conrad Fitzgerald, Doctor of Medicine and John T ? Hardy Mercantile Agent, both of Harbor Briton Newfoundland severally make oath and say:
That we are the proposed sureties on behalf of the intended administrator with the will annexed, of the estate and effects, rights and credits, of William Matchem late of Gaultois ??? deceased, in the within bond named, for the faithful administration of the said estate and effects, rights and credits, of the said deceased; and I the said Conrad FitzGerald for myself make oath and say that I am worth property to the amount of Four thousand dollars, over and above all incumbrances and over and above what will pay my just debts, and every other sum for which I am now bail, or for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise, and I the said John T. Hardy for myself, make oath and say, that I am worth property to the amount of Four thousand dollars, over and above what will pay my just debts, and every other sum for which I am now bail and for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise.

Know all Men by these Presents: That we the Reverend George H. Bishop of Hermitage Cove, Hermitage Bay; and Conrad FitzGerald Doctor of Medicine and John T. Hardy Mercantile Agent, both of Harbor Briton, Newfoundland are jointly and severally bound unto our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, in the sum of Four thousand dollars, to be paid to our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors for which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of us for the whole, our and each of our executors and administrators, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals.

Dated the 20th day of June in the year of our Lord 1900.

The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above named George H. Bishop as administrator of all the estate and effects, rights and credits of William Matchem late of Gaultois in the Electoral District of Fortune Bay in the Island of Newfoundland Planter deceased, who died on or about the 27th day of May A.D. 1900 do, when lawfully called on in that behalf, make, or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come into the hands, possession or knowledge of him the said George H. Bishop or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, into the Registry of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, whenever required by law so to do, and the same estate and effects, rights and credits, and all other estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased at the time of his death which at any time after shall come into the hands or possession of the said George H. Bishop or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him, do well and truly administer according to law, that is to say, do pay the debts which the said deceased did owe at his decease, and then the Legacies contained in the said Will annexed to the said Letters of Administration to the said George H. Bishop committed, so far as such property will thereunder extend and the law bind him, and further, do make, or cause to be made, a full true and just account of administration within twelve months or sooner if thereunto required, and all the rest and residue of the property shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons as shall be by law entitled thereto; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to remain in full force and virtue.

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Matchem, Senior, at present of Gaultios, Hermitage Bay, Newfoundland, Planter. I hereby direct that at my decease all my funeral and testamentary expenses and all my just debts be just paid and settled and after my death it is my desire that my wife, Elizabeth Matchem shall hold possession of all my premises at Gaultois, including ??? Flake Stage and all fishing skiffs & nets and household furniture. Beds, bedding and all other properties of any sort and description to be occupied and enjoyed to her for her support and maintenance as long as she shall live, also to receive the interest on all monies due to me or that may become due to me from any source whatever for her use and benefit as long as she lives, and at her decease I hereby give and bequeath to my son William Matchem at present of Gaultois Hermitage Bay Newfoundland the whole of the aforesaid and described premises with all my personal effects and all monies in my possession at the time of my decease, or that may become due to me from any source whatsoever for his sole and absolute use and benefit forever and I hereby appoint Edgar Clench Gallop of Gaultois Executor of this my Will.
In witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and Seal this first day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and ninety one.

Bishop of Hermitage Cove, Hermitage Bay.

I John T???l Hardy of Harbor Briton aforesaid Mercantile Agent make oath and say that on the First day of November A.D. One Thousand eight Hundred and ninety one at Gaultois, Hermitage Bay ??? I was present and did see William Matchem late of Gaultois aforesaid, the Testator named in the paper writing hereunto annexed, marked A, duly sign (by making his mark), publish and declare the said annexed paper writing (Marked A and identified by my initials) as and for his last Will and Testament, in the presence of me and of W. T. Rive? the other subscribing witness thereto. That I and said W. T. Rive? then and there signed our names to such Will as such witnesses, in the presence of the said Testator and of each other. That previously to the said Will being so signed as aforesaid, by the said Testator and the said witnesses, it was read over to and approved of by, the said Testator in the presence of me and the said W. T. Rive? and that at the time of the said execution of the said Will the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of Deponent's knowledge and belief.

Humbly sheweth

          That William Matchem late of Gaultois aforesaid, your Petitioner's father, died on the twenty-seventh day of May A.D. 1900 at Gaultois aforesaid, having previously made his last will and testament, hereto annexed, Marked "A", whereby he appointed Edward Clench Gallop died at Harbor Briton, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland on the twenty-fifth day of December A.D. 1898?
          That your petitioner's mother, Elizabeth Matchem, legatee under the aforesaid will died at Gaulois aforesaid on the eighteenth of October A.D. 1898.
          That the estate of the said William Matchem within the jurisdiction of your Honourable Court did not to the best of petitioner's knowledge and belief exceed the sum of two thousand dollars in value.
          That no letters of administration or of Probate of said estate have been granted.
          Your petitioner humbly prays that letters of administration of said estate with the will annexed be granted
