AFFIDAVIT.

In the Supreme Court of Newfoundland.

NEWFOUNDLAND, }                  I, Richard Goff of St. John's
St. John's        To Wit  }                  Cabinetmaker

do swear that I believe that
William Lamized late of St. John's aforesaid

deceased died with out a Will; and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased, and will pay his Debts so far as his Goods will extend and the law shall bind me; and that I will exhibit a true account of my Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months after the date hereof, or when I shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the goods, rights, chattels, assets, credits and effects of the said deceased of which he died possessed, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of Two hundred -----------------------------------dollars.

So help us God.

Be it Remembered, That on this 28th day of April (writing over top of typed content - can read some but not enough to transcribe in a meaningful way)

          That we are the proposed sureties on behalf of the intended Administrator of the property of William Lauzer deceased in the within ??? named, for the faithful administration of the said property of the said deceased and I the said John Sharpe of St. John's in the Central District make oath and say that I reside at St. John's and am worth property to the amount of Two hundred Dollars (over and above all encumbrances and over and above what will pay my just debts and every other sum for which I am now bail or for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise.

          AND I the said Thomas Keating for myself make oath and say that I reside at St. John's aforesaid and am worth property to the amount of Two hundred dollars over and above all encumbrances and over and above what will pay my just debts and every other sum for which I am now bail or for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise.

Be it Remembered, that on this 28th day of April in the 63rd Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and _________

Personally appeared Richard Goff of St. John's Cabinetmaker John Sharpe of same place ????? merchant and Thomas Keating also of same place Dealer and did acknowledge themselves to held and firmly bound to Our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal sum of Four Hundred dollars to be had, made, and levied on their Goods, Chattels, and Effects, jointly and severally if default is made in any of the Conditions following: -

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Richard Goff ------- as Administrator of the Estate and Effects of William Lamzed ---- late of St. John's aforesaid ------ deceased, do make, or cause to be made, a just, true and perfect Inventory of all and singular, the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of him the said Richard Goff ------ as such Administrator or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons, for him and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited into the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the 28th day of October next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of his death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of him the said Richard Goff ---- or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make or cause to be made, a just and true account of his said Administration, on or before the 28th day of April which will be in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and One and afterwards from time to time as he shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration accounts, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in a due course of Administration, or in such manner as the said Court shall direct then this Obligation to be void and of no effect or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.

The petition of Richard Goff of St. John's ??? ???? ???? ???? ?? ????. (The first part of this page is blurred almost as if another page was laid over it or the carbon paper shifted - makes it difficult to read)

_________ ???? William Lamzed late of St. John's aforesaid deceased ???? ?? ?? ??? on the ?? day of January AD 1900?????.

          That he left him surviving two sisters, one of them is your petitioner's wife and the other Charlotte Skiffington wife of Richard Skiffington.

          That at the time of his death the said deceased was possessed of property consisting of a piece of land situate on ???? Bank in the town of St. John's aforesaid and within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court of the probable value of two hundred dollars.

          That the consent of the said Charlotte Skiffington to your petitioner being appointed administrator to the estate of the said deceased is hereunto ????.

          That neither probate to any last will or letters of administration to the estate of said deceased has as yet been granted to any person.

          Your petitioner would therefore ask your Honourable court to grant his letters of administration to the estate of said deceased and as is duty bound he will ever pray, etc., etc.
