NEWFOUNDLAND
Harbor Grace To Wit:          I Isabella Brown of Harbor Grace aforesaid Widow do swear that I believe that William Brown late of Harbor Grace Freight Agent deceased, died without a Will; and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay his debts, so far as his Goods will extend: and that I will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of my Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when I shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased of which he died possessed, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of Two Hundred dollars.

So help me God

The Petition of Isabella Brown of Harbor Grace in the Island of Newfoundland, Widow,

Humbly Sheweth

  1. That William Brown, late of Harbor Grace aforesaid, Freight Agent, and way Station, died at this place on or about the sixteenth day of February A.D. 1900 intestate, leaving him surviving as next of Kin Your Petitioner, wife of the said deceased and the following children, namely: Walter? Aged 13, Susy 12, Elsie 10, Frederick 8, Ambrose 5, William 3, Florence (Flow) 3
  2. That the said deceased at the time of his death was possessed of certain property and estate within the Jurisdiction of Your Honorable Court. That the probable value of the property and estate of the said Wiliam Brown does not exceed Two Hundred Dollars
  3. That no application for Administration to the estate of the said deceased has heretofore been made to Your Honorable Court

  4. Your Petitioner therefore humbly prays that your Honorable Court or one of your Lordships the Judges thereof will be pleased to grant unto her Letters of Administration to the Estate of the said Wiliam Brown.

          And as in duty bound, Your Petitioner will ever pray, etc etc.

In the estate of William Brown late of Harbor Grace deceased.
We John Godden of Harbor Grace in the Northern District of Newfoundland and Frederick Brown of Harbor Grace in the Northern District of Newfoundland severally make oath and say
That we are the proposed sureties on behalf of the intended Administratrix of the property of William Brown deceased in the within Bond named for the faithful administration of the said property of the said deceased, and I the said John Godden of Harbor Grace in the Northern District make oath and say that I reside at Harbor Grace and am worth property to the amount of Four hundred Dollars over and above all encumbrances and over and above what will pay my just debts and every other sum for which I am now bail or for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise.
And I the said Frederick Brown for myself make oath and say that I reside at Harbor Grace and am worth property to the amount of Four hundred dollars over and above all encumbrances and over and above what will pay my just debts and every other sum for which I am now bail or for which I am liable as surety endorser or otherwise.

Be it Remembered That on this 31st day of May in the 63rd Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and ninety nine

Personally appeared Isabella Brown of Harbor Grace Widow John Godden of Harbor Grace Clerk in Holy Orders Frederick Brown of Harbor Grace General Agent and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal sum of Four Hundred dollars to be had, made and levied on his Goods, Chattels and Effects, jointly and severally, if Default is made in any of the conditions following :---

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Isabella Brown as Administratrix of the Estate and Effects of William Brown late of Harbor Grace Freight Agent deceased, do make or cause to be made, a just, true, and perfect inventory of all and singular the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of her the said Isabella Brown as such Administratrix or to the hands or possession of any other person, or persons, for her and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the 30th day of November next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other the Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of his death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of her the said Isabelle Brown or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for her shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true account of her said Administration, on or before the 31st day of May which will be in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand nine hundred and one and afterwards from time to time as she shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue, and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.
