NEWFOUNDLAND
S Johns To Wit          I Louisa Barnes of St. Johns aforesaid, Spinster, do swear that I believe that Louisa Brine late of S. Johns, aforesaid Spinster deceased, died without a Will; and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay her debts, so far as her Goods will extend: and that I will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of my Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when I shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased of which she died possessed, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of One thousand two hundred dollars.

Be it Remembered That on this 22nd day of January in the 60th Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred

Personally appeared Louisa Barnes of St John's, Spinster, William J. Berge? of S. Johns, Hardware Merchant and Frank D. Lilly of S. Johns, Barrister at Law and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal sum of Two thousand four hundred dollars to be had, made and levied on his Goods, Chattels and Effects, jointly and severally, if Default is made in any of the conditions following :---

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Louisa Barnes as Administratrix of the Estate and Effects of Louisa Brine late of S. Johns Spinster deceased, do make or cause to be made, a just, true, and perfect inventory of all and singular the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of her the said Louisa Barnes as such Administratrix or to the hands or possession of any other person, or persons, for her and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the 22nd day of July next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other the Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of her death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of her the said Louisa Barnes or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for her shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true account of her said Administration, on or before the 22nd day of January which will be in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand nine hundred and one afterwards from time to time as she shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue, and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.

Three days from the date hereof application will be made to the Honourable the Supreme Court or to one of the Honourable the Judges thereof for Letters of Administration to the Estate and Effects of Louisa Brine late of S. Johns Spinster deceased to be granted to Louisa Barnes niece of said deceased.

To the Honorable the Supreme Court of Newfoundland or to one of the Honorable the Judges thereof.

The Petition of Louisa Barnes of St. Johns Spinster

Humbly Sheweth

That Louisa Brine of St. Johns Spinster died at that place on or about the second day of February 1895, intestate, leaving her surviving her sisters Sophia Brine, Jessie Barnes, and Eliza Winter and her brother John M. Brine all of whom are now dead with the exception of Sophia Brine who is at present residing in Chicago, U.S.A.
Your Petitioner is a daughter of the said Jessie Barnes deceased and is the nearest next of kin of the said Louisa Brine deceased residing within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court.
That the said Louisa Brine at the time of her death was possessed of property of the value of one thousand two hundred dollars being her share and interest in a Deed of Mortgage for the sum or two thousand four hundred dollars held by the said deceased and her said sister Sophia from Henry Renouf, late of St. Johns, Judge of the Central District Court, deceased, on certain property belonging to him situate on the Monkstown Road in St. Johns and which is now owned by Mrs. Mary Ellen Furlong of St. Johns Married Woman. The principal sum of the said Mortgage is now due and payable and the said Mary Ellen Furlong is so your Petitioner is informed desirous of paying off the same but has refused to do so until the said Deed can be released by the legal representatives of the said Louisa Brine deceased.

No Administration to the Estate of the said Louisa Brine deceased has been at any time granted.
Your Petitioner therefore prays that Letters of Administration to the Estate and Effects of the said Louisa Brine will be granted to her.
And as in duty bound your Petitioner will ever pray.
Dated at St. Johns this 22nd day of December 1899.
