To the Honourable the Supreme Court of Newfoundland or one of their Lordships the Judges thereof.

The Petition of Archibald Douglas Blackador of Black River in the Island of Newfoundland

Humbly Sheweth

  1. That Archibald McQueen Blackador late of Black River in the Island of Newfoundland, Telegraph Operator, died at that place on or about the 12th day of April A.D. 1900.
  2. That hereto annexed is the Last Will and Testament of the said Archibald McQueen Blackador
  3. That the said Testator left him surviving his wife, Ann Eliza Blackador and the following children viz: Clotilda? Alice, Annie Cordelia, Jane? Donelda, Mrs. Mary C. O'Brien, William Wallace Blackador, Henry Thomas Blackador, and your Petitioner.
  4. That at the time of his death the said deceased was possessed of certain property and estate within the jurisdiction of your Honorable Court of the probable value of Five thousand five hundred dollars.

  5. That no application for Administration to the said Estate has heretofore been made to this Honorable Court.
  6. Your Petitioner therefore humbly prays that your Honorable Court or one of Your Lordships the Judges thereof will be pleased to grant unto him Letters of Administration cum testamento annexo to the estate of the said Archibald McQueen Blackador

          And, as in duty bound Your Petitioner will ever pray &c &c.

NEWFOUNDLAND
St. Johns To Wit:          I Archibald D. Blackador of Black River in the Southern District but presently of S. Johns aforesaid do swear that I believe that Archibald McQueen Blackador late of Black River aforesaid Telegraph Operator deceased, died with a Will; and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay his debts, so far as his Goods will extend and the law shall bind me: and that I will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of my Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when I shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased of which he died possessed, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of ??? ??? ??? hundred dollars.

  1. That hereto annexed, marked "A", is the Last Will and Testament of Archibald McQueen Blackador, late of Black River in the Island of Newfoundland, Telegraph Operator
  2. That the said Last Will and Testament is in the handwriting of the said Testator and signed by him.
  3. That I am well acquainted with the handwriting of the said Testator and know the signature "Archibald McQueen Blackador" at the foot of the said Will to be in the true and proper handwriting of the said Testator and that I am also personally acquainted with the handwriting of G. W. Arnott? and John Dooley both of Black River aforesaid, witnesses to the said will and that the signatures "G. W. Arnott? andJohn Dooley" are in the true and proper handwriting of the said witnesses.

Robert G. Rendell of S. Johns, aforesaid, Merchant severally make oath and say :-
We are the proposed sureties on behalf of the intended Administrator of the property of Archibald McQueen Blackador late of Black River, Telegraph Operator deceased, In the within Bond named for the faithful Administration of the said property of the said deceased; and I, the said Augustus W. Harvey, make oath and say that I reside at S. Johns and am worth property in the amount of Eleven thousand dollars over and above all encumbrances & over & above what will pay my just debts, & every other sum for which I am now bail, or for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise. And I, the said Robert G. Rendell for myself make oath and say that I reside at S. Johns and am worth property to the amount of Eleven thousand dollars over & above all incumbrances & over & above what will pay my just debts & every other sum for which I am now bail or for which I am now liable as surety or endorser or otherwise.

Be it Remembered That on this 8th day of May in the 63rd Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred

Personally appeared Archibald Douglas Blackador of Black River, Southern District, The Honorable Augustus W. Harvey of S. Johns, Merchant and Robert G. Rendell of S. Johns, Merchant and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal Sum of Eleven thousand dollars to be had, made and levied on his Goods, Chattels and Effects, jointly and severally, if Default is made in any of the conditions following :---

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Archibald Douglas Blackador as Administrator Cum testamento annexo of the Estate and Effects of Archibald McQueen Blackador late of Black River aforesaid Telegraph Operator deceased, do make or cause to be made, a just, true, and perfect inventory of all and singular the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of him the said Archibald Douglas Blackador as such Administrator or to the hands or possession of any other person, or persons, for him and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the 8th day of November next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other the Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of his death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of him the said Archibald Douglas Blackador or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true account of his said Administration, on or before the 8th day of May which will be in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand nine hundred and one afterwards from time to time as he shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue, and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.
