St. John's To Wit        } I do swear that I believe that Stephen Freeman late of St. John's in the Central District Carpenter deceased, died without a Will; and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay his debts, so far as his Goods will extend: and that I will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of my Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when I shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased which he died possessed of, within the jurisdiction of this Court,  do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of Twelve hundred dollars.

So help me God

Be it Remembered That on this 17th day of September in the 59th Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and ninety five personally appeared William Freeman of Saint John's in the Central District of Newfoundland, Carpenter, Michael Mullally of St. John's Cooper, Edward H. Davey of St. Johns Contractor and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal Sum of Twenty four hundred Dollars to be had, made and levied on his Goods, Chattels and Effects, jointly and severally, if Default is made in any of the conditions following :---

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden William Freeman as Administrator of the Estate and Effects of Stephen Freeman late of Saint John's Carpenter deceased, do make or cause to be made, a just, true, and perfect inventory of all and singular the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of him the said William Freeman as such Administrator or to the hands or possession of any other person, or persons, for him and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the 17th day of March next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other the Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of his death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of him the said William Freeman or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true account of his said Administration, on or before the 17th day of September which will be in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and ninety six and afterwards from time to time as he shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue, and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.

I hereby give notice that I will, after three days from this date, apply to the Honourable the Supreme Court of Newfoundland or to one of the Honourable the Judges thereof for Letters of Administration to the Estate of Stephen Freeman late of St. John's carpenter deceased to be granted to William Freeman son of the said deceased.

The petition of William Freeman of St. John's in Newfoundland carpenter

Humbly Sheweth that

  1. Stephen Freeman late of St. John's aforesaid carpenter deceased died at St. John's aforesaid on or about the 14th day of February A.D. 1894 Intestate.
  2. The said Stephen Freeman left him surviving his widow Jane Freeman and five children namely : - William, Stephen, Robert, Jemima and Henry. The said widow died on or about the 8th day of July A.D. 1895.
  3. The estate of the said Stephen Freeman at the time of his decease consisted of (1) an interest in land on Victoria Street in St. John's in fee simple (2) aleasehold [sic] interest in land with a dwelling-house therein situate on the said street and (3) household furniture; and is of the probable value of twelve hundred dollars.
  4. No administration to the said estate has at any time been granted

          Wherefore your petitioner humbly prays that letters of administration to the estate of the said late Stephen Freeman may be granted to him and as in duty bound will pray &c.

TO ALL TO WHOM these presents shall come Greeting: WHEREAS Stephen Freeman late of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland carpenter died at the said place on the 14th day of February A.D. 1894 intestate and leaving him surviving his widow Jane Freeman (who is since deceased) and five children namely William, Stephen, Robert, Jemima and Henry AND WHEREAS application has been made to the Honourable the Supreme Court of Newfoundland for administration to the estate of the said Stephen Freeman to be granted to William Freeman aforesaid son of the said deceased NOW KNOW YE that we the said STEPHEN FREEMAN of St. John's shoe-maker ROBERT FREEMAN of the said place accountant, JEMIMA FREEMAN of the said place spinster HENRY FREEMAN of Twillingate carpenter do hereby assent and agree to administration to the Estate of the said Stephen Freeman being granted to William Freeman AS WITNESS OUR HANDS THIS fourteenth day of September A.D. 1895
