In the Supreme Court of Newfoundland
----------------

NEWFOUNDLAND
St. John's   To Wit          I Alexander J. W. McNeily of St. Johns Chief Clerk Registrar of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland do swear that I believe that Thomas Coady late of St. Johns Oil Manufacturer deceased, died without a Will; and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay his debts, so far as his Goods will extend: and that I will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of my Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when I shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased of which he died possessed, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of Five hundred and fifty dollars.

So help me God

To Wit
I Catherine Keefe of Saint Johns Married Woman wife of Michael Keefe the party referred to in the accompanying Will make oath and say that on the 17th day of December A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty at St. John's I was present and did see Lawrence Coady late of Saint Johns planter the Testator named in the paper writing hereunto annexed duly sign publish and declare the said annexed paper writing as and for his last Will and Testament, in my presence and in the presence of John Harvey and John Flinn the other subscribing witness thereto. That said John Harvey and John Flinn then and there signed their names to such Will as such witnesses, in the presence of the said Testator and of each other, That the said Will was read over to the said Testator in my presence and executed in my presence. That the said witness one John Harvey is left the Country and his whereabouts is not known. The said John Flinn died last February and that at the time of the said execution of the said Will the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding to the best of my knowledge and belief.

To the Honorable the Supreme Court or one of the Honorable the Judges thereof

The Petition of Richard Barter of Saint Johns aforesaid

Humbly sheweth as follows

          That Thomas Coady late of Saint Johns oil manufacturer died in the month of May last intestate
That at the time of his death the said deceased was invested in property left him under the Will of Lawrence Coady.
That the widow of the said Lawrence Coady had a life interest in the property as bequeathed to the said Thomas Coady
That the said widow died at Saint Johns aforesaid on last Tuesday
That said deceased Thomas Coady left him surviving five children - Mary Ellen? Hannah David Lawrence and Thomas.
That the mother of the said childrenĀ  predeceased their said father

 

          That all of the said children are under age.
That said deceased was worth at the time of his death about five hundred dollars in property situate in Saint Johns
That Petitioner is married to a sister of the said Thomas Coady.
          Petitioner therefore prays that administration of the said Estate may be granted to him and as in duty bound he will ever pray
          Dated at Saint Johns this 5th day of November AD 1893?
