Be it Remembered, That on this 19th day of September in the Fifty Eight Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lady VICTORIA, by the Grace of GOD, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, QUEEN, Defender of the Faith, &c., and in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety-four

Personally appeared, Kate Scanlan of Saint John's Central District Widow William P Walsh of Saint John's aforesaid Gentleman and Maurice Fenelon of St John's Gentleman and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal sum of Five hundred dollars to be had, made, and levied on their Goods, Chattels, and Effects jointly and severally if default is made in any of the Conditions following:---

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Kate Scanlan shall duly and faithfully act as Guardian of the Estate and Effects of -------- John Scanlan a Minor under the age of twenty-one years, and shall and do pay and dispose of such Estate in such manner as the said Court shall direct, then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.

To the Honorable the Supreme Court or one of the Honourable the Judges thereof

          The Petition of Catherine Scanlan of St.John's New-foundland, widow

H U M B L Y  S H E W E T H

  1. That Thomas D. Scanalan late of St.John's aforesaid Gentleman, died there on or about August 19th.last past.
  2. That the said Thomas D. Scanlan was insured under a policy of Life Insurance in the Canada Life Insurance Company of Hamilton, Ontario for the sum of $7695 which said policy is still subsisting.
  3. That the said policy is payable to and for the benefit of the wife and children of the said Thomas D.Scanlan.
  4. That Margaret Scanlan and John Scanlan two of the said children of the said Thomas D. Scanlan are infants of the age of twenty and fourteen years respectively and are each entitled to a seventh part of the amount of the said policy of life insurance.
  5. That no letters of guardianship to the persons or estates of the said infants have been granted to anyone.
  6. That letters of administration to the estate of the said Thomas D. Scanlan were granted to your Petitioner by this Honorable Court on the Twenty seventh day of August last past.

Your Petitioner therefore prays that letters of guardianship to the said persons and estates of the said infants be granted to said Petitioner the mother of the said infants.
And as in duty bound she will ever pray &c.
