Be it Remembered, That on this First day of December in the Fifty eighth Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lady VICTORIA, by the Grace of GOD, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, QUEEN, Defender of the Faith, &c., and in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety-four

Personally appeared Thomas French of Moretons Harbor Notre Dame Bay at present of St. John's/ Planter, Alfred Pike of St. John's Accountant and James McIntyre of St. John's, Stone Cutter --------------------------------- and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal sum of Two hundred and forty dollars to be had, made, and levied on their Goods, Chattels, and Effects jointly and severally if default is made in any of the Conditions following:---

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Thomas French shall duly and faithfully act as Guardian of the Estate and Effects of George French and Frederick French infant children of William French late of Moreton's Harbour Fisherman deceased a minor under the age of twenty-one years, (initialled in left margin G.IA.) and shall and do pay and dispose of such Estate in such manner as the said Court shall direct, then this obligation to be be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.

Upon reading the Petition of Thomas French; uncle of the infant children named in the said Petition and upon hearing Mr. Berteau of Counsel for them I do order that the said Thomas French be and he is hereby appointed Guardian, on the usual bonds being given, of the Estate of the said infant children and I do further order, upon reading the consent of Mr. Carty the Administrator of this Estate, that the sum now due to Lavinia French named in the said Petition (now of age) be paid to the said Thomas French

The Petition of Thomas French of Moretons Harbour Notre Dame Bay but at present of St. Johns Planter

Respectfully sheweth as follows:-

  1. That William French late of Moretons Harbour aforesaid Planter, brother of your Petitioner, died there in the month of February AD 1889 leaving him surviving his widow Rebecca (second wife) and three children by his first wife Viz:-- Lavinia ------------------------ (now of age) and George and Frederick, Minors,

  2. The said children namely George and Frederick are entitled to a distributive share of the Estate of their said father and the said share of the probable value of $112.00
    --------------------

          Petitioner Therefore prays that he may be appointed Guardian of the Estates of the said George and Frederick, children of the said William French
          And as in duty bound he will ever pray
