To the Honourable the Supreme Court of
Newfoundland & to one of the Honourable
The Judges thereof.
The Petition of Robert G. Rendell of St. John's in the Central District, Merchant.
Humbly Shewith
That
Your Petitioner is a merchant carrying on business under the style of C.F. Bennett and Company.
That
Charles Cossman of Channel in the Southern District, merchant, lately died intestate leaving him surviving a widow and children.
That
The estate of the said Charles Cossman is indebted to Your Petitioner in a sum of six hundred and ninety eight dollars and to John Anderson of St. John's, Merchant in a sum of about six hundred dollars
That
It is doubtful whether the estate of the said Charles Cossman is able to pay one hundred cents on the dollar of its indebtedness and that in order to save the estate from waste it is necessary that it should be administered to immediately. That there are a number of fishery servants whose wages are now due and it is necessary to find a fund out of which to pay them.
That
The said John Anderson is now in Channel.
That
The widow of the said Charles Cossman consents to administration to the estate of her husband being granted forth of this Honourable Court to the said John Anderson, and that her telegraphed consent is hereto annexed and marked "A". That the value of the estate of the said Charles Cossman cannot
Page 2 of letter from Robert J. Rendell in the matter of Charles Cossman, deceased.
Be accurately ascertained until the assets are realized and that many of the assets will be realized only after great delay and with extreme difficulty unless immediate steps are hereto taken to administer the estate. The total value of the said estate will not, however, exceed one thousand dollars
That
No probate to any will or letters of administration to the estate of the said Charles Cossman have been granted is applied for.
Your Petitioner therefore prays that administration to the Estate of the said Charles Cossman may be granted to John Anderson of St. John's Merchant, in that such the order be made as to Your Honourable Court may deem fit.
And, as in duty bound, Your Petitioner will ever pray, to(?).
