To Wit.
I believe that Mary Ann Hutchings of St. John's in the Central District of Newfoundland, Widow, deceased, died with a Will, and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay her debts, so far as her Goods will extend, and that she will exhibit a true, full and perfect inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of her Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when she shall be thereunto lawfully required, and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased which she died possessed of, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not, according to the best of her knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of One Thousand Five Hundred dollars.

Martin of St. John's aforesaid, Tailor,  maketh oath and saith that on the fourth day of October A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty six at St. John's, he this deponent was present and did see Mary Ann Hutchings late of St. John's, the Testatrix named in the paper writing hereto annexed, duly sign publish and declare the said annexed paper writing *marked B as and for *a codicil to her last Will and Testament in the presence of this Deponent and of Annie Elizabeth Martin, the other subscribing witness thereto. That Deponent and said Annie Elizabeth Martin then and there signed their names to such *WillCodicil and such witnesses in the presence of the said Testatrix and of each other and that at the time of the said Execution of the said *WillCodicil the said Testatrix was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of Deponent's knowledge and belief.

Additional Codicil to the last Will and Testament of Mary Ann Hutchings, widow of the late John Hutchings of Harbour Grace, Builder, deceased.

I Mary Ann Hutchings of St. John's, Newfoundland, by this Codicil ratify and confirm my last Will and Testament dated the thirteenth day of December, eighteen hundred and eighty one and do further give and bequeath to my son James Soper Hutchings the Large Writing Desk formerly belonging to my deceased husband, also six volumes of Bible Commentary and Pictures.
And that this Codicil shall be adjudged to be a part and parcel of my last Will and Testaent.
Witness my hand and seal the fourth day of October eighteen hundred and eighty six.

Codicil to the last Will and Testament of Mary Ann Hutchings, widow of the late John Hutchings of Harbour Grace, Builder.

I Mary Ann Hutchings of Saint John's Newfoundland by this codicil do ratify and confirm my last Will and Testament dated the thirteenth day of December, A.D. eighteen hundred and eighty one. And do further give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth Hutchings the following articles viz. one bedstead, one feather bed marked in name, two bolsters, three pillows, five quilts, two pair? blankets, sheets, pillow slips, one wash stand, one dressing table, one chest drawers, one looking glass, one bedroom set, one carpet, one sofa, one small table, two work boxes, pictures, one sewing Machine, two chairs, one pair brackets, one Japan tray and Mats, one set china ornaments, one night stool.
And that this codicil shall be adjudged to be a part and parcel of my last Will and Testament.
Witness my hand this fourth day of October A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty six.

Hutchings one feather bed, two pillows, two quilts/ canvas pictures/ large Family Bible.
And that this Codicil shall be adjudged to be a part and parcel of my last Will and Testament.

Drysdale of Harbor Grace aforesaid, Post Master, maketh oath and saith that on the thirteenth day of December A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty one at Harbor Grace he, this deponent was present and did see Mary Ann Hutchings late of Harbor Grace the Testatrix named in the paper writing hereto annexed, duly sign publish and declare the said annexed paper writing as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of this Deponent and of James Hutchings the other subscribing witness thereto. That Deponent and said James Hutchings then and there signed their names to such Will as such witnesses in the presence of the said Testatrix and of each other and that at the time of the said Execution of the said Will the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of Deponent's knowledge and belief.

Know all men by these presents I Mary Ann Hutchings of Harbor Grace in the Island of Newfoundland, Relict of the late John Hutchings of the same place, a Build?, being of sound disposing mind, memory, recollection, I make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament.
1st. I devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth Hutchings my legal and equitable share of the freehold house and property situate in Cochrane Street for ever.
2nd. I devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth Hutchings my legal and equitable share in the leasehold house and property situate South Side Water Street now in my occupancy for ever.
3rd. I devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth Hutchings my legal and equitable share of all the moneys, goods and chattels to which I am entitled from the Estate of my late husband John Hutchings for ever.
4th. I devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth Hutchings my legal and equitable share of the Estate of my late son William Hutchings, Master Mariner, for ever.
And I appoint George Perrett Hutchings sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other Wills

The Petition of Mary Elizabeth Hutchings of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland, Spinster,

Humbly Sheweth

That your Petitioner's mother Mary Ann Hutchings*Widow of John Hutchings, deceased, departed this life on or about the twenty sixth day of November last past.
That the said Mary Ann Hutchings deceased left her surviving three children namely John Hutchings now resising in Montreal in the Dominion of Canada, James Hutchings residing at Channel in the Southern District and your Petitioner.
That the said deceased made and published her last Will and Testament which said Will together with three Codicils thereto is hereunto annexed and all of which having been proven in due form of law by the affidavits of Andrew T. Drysdale and Arthur W. Martin, the subscribing witnesses thereto.
That the said Mary Ann Hutchings was at the time of her decease possessed of money, property and effects

within the jurisdiction of your Honorable Court of the probable value of One Thousand Five Hundred dollars.
That George Perrett Hutchings, the Executor named in said Will has renounced the Executorship thereof as will appear by the affidavit of him the said George Perrett Hutchings hereto annexed.
That no probate or Letters of Administration have as yet been granted to said Estate.
Your Petitioner therefore prays that Letters of Administration with Will annexed to the said Estate may be granted to her.
And as in duty bound she will ever pray.

Be it Remembered, That on this seventh day of February in the Fifty Second Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady VICTORIA, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty-nine personally appeared Mary Elizabeth Hutchings of St. John's in the Central District of Newfoundland, Spinster, George Perrett Hutchings of same place, Clerk, and Arthur W. Martin of same place, Tailor, and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Lady the Queen, her Heirs and Successors, in the penal Sum of Three Thousand Dollars, to be had, made and levied on their Goods, Chattels and Effects, jointly and severally, if Default is made in any of the conditions following:--

NOW THE CONDITION OF THIS OBLIGATION IS SUCH, That if the above bounden Mary Elizabeth Hutchings, as Administratrix C.T.A. of the Estate and Effects of Mary Ann Hutchings, late of St. John's, Widow, deceased, do make, or cause to be made, a just, true, and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of her the said Mary Elizabeth Hutchings as such Administratrix or to the hands or possession of any other person, or persons, for her and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the Seventh day of August next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other the Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of her death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of her the said Mary Elizabeth Hutchings or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for her shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true account of her said Administration, on or before the Seventh day of February which will be in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and ninety and afterwards from time to time as she shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue, and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.
