To Wit.          } We do swear that we believe that Susan Humphries late of Greenspond aforesaid, widow, deceased, died with a Will, and that we will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay her debts so far as her Goods will extend, and that we will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of our Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when we shall be thereunto lawfully required, and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased which she died possessed of, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not, according to the best of our knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of Six hundred dollars.

A

In the name of God, Amen.

I Susan Humphries, Widow, of Greenspond, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland, being of sound mind and understanding, do hereby make my last will and testament.

First. I commit my body to the ground and my soul into the hands of its creator.
Item. I give and bequeath the sum of twenty five pounds Sterling to my executors to be by them expended in the necessary expenses of the decent and reverent burial of my body and the balance to purchase a head-stone.
Item. I give devise and bequeath all my interest in the Shop now in the occupation of Mrs. George Edgar and in the dwelling house now in the occupation of my grandson Robert Humphries and the land upon which the said Shop and dwelling house are built and the land belonging to me adjoining the said shop and dwelling house, the boundaries of the said property being on the North the public street of this town, on the East the Estate of my late husband, on the South the Sea and on the West Brookings Estate, to my grandson Thomas Carter Humphries, and to my great grandson Thomas Humphries son of Robert, their heirs and successors in two equal shares for their sole use and benefit.
Item. I give, devise and bequeath the sum of (1) Ten pounds currency to my great grand-child Susanna Humphries (2) Five pounds currency each to my great-grand children Mary, Ida, Thomas and Martha Gill (the above five children being the children of my grandson Robert) and (3) Ten pounds currency to my great grandchild Lavinia (daughter of Thos Carter Humphries) all and each of the above sums to be placed in the Savings Bank in St. John's there to remain until the said children are respectively 21 years of age. If any or either of the said children die before they reach the age of 21 years, the amount to their credit at the time of their decease shall be drawn by my executors and expended in the necessary expenses of their decent and reverent burial.
Item. I give and bequeath to my great grandchild Susanna Humphries my bed, bedstead, bed curtains and

bedding, one fur? trunk, two pieces of dress stuff, one? hatbox, one black silk dress, one poplin dress, one black satin cape and a silk umbrella, for her sole use and benefit.
Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Thomas Carter Humphries the following articles now in my bedroom viz. one stove, a carpet, wash stand, toilet-set and small table, also the following now in the down stairs room viz. a round table, sofa, cupboard and its contents, two rocking chairs and six other chairs.
Item. I give and bequeath one china cup each to my great grandchildren Mary, Ida and Martha Gill Humphries.
Item. I give and bequeath one glass cup each to my great grandchildren Susanna, Thomas and Lavinia Humphries.
Item. I give and bequeath to my great grandchild Susanna half a dozen china cups and saucers, a teapot, slop basin, two bread plates and a brass kettle.
Item. I give and bequeath to my great grandchild Lavinia half a dozen china cups and saucers, a teapot and goblet.
Item. I give and bequeath three gilded tumblers each to my two grandsons Thomas Carter and Robert Humphries.
Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Robert one small decanter and one market basket.
Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Thomas Carter Humhries one looking glass, one large and three small pictures and one stool chair.
Item. I give and bequeath to my friend Mary Gaylor one dress, three flannel petticoats, one black merino petticoat and one black scarf shawl.
Item. I give and bequeath to Selina Carter one dress, three shawls and three flannel petticoats.
Item. I give and bequeath one water mug each to my great grandchildren Ida, Mary and Martha Gill.
Item. I give and bequeath to Naomi Sanders half a dozen silver tea spoons, one pair sugar tongs, a teapot cosy and tea caddy.
Item. I give and bequeath to Mary Gaylor and Selina Carter all my underclothing in two equal shares.

Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Robert Humphries my large gold ring now upon my middle finger.
Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Thomas Carter Humphries my smaller gold ring now upon my third finger.
Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Thomas Carter Humphries all and any other articles of furniture and clothing not herein given and bequeathed.
Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Thomas Carter Humphries any money I may be possessed of not otherwise given and bequeathed.
Item. I hereby appoint and constitute George Skelton Esquire, M.H.A. and the Reverend William How, Clerk in Holy Orders the Executors of this my last will and testament.

Be it Remembered, That on this nineteenth day of October 1888 in the Fifty Second Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady VICTORIA, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty-eight personally appeared Robert Humphries of Greenspond, Bonavista Bay, Thomas Humphries of same place and William N. Lang? and Joseph Squires both also of Greenspond aforesaid and John C. Dominy of Greenspond and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Lady the Queen, her Heirs and Successors, in the penal Sum of Twelve Hundred Dollars, to be had, made and levied on their Goods, Chattels and Effects,  jointly and severally, if Default is made in any of the conditions following:--

NOW THE CONDITION OF THIS OBLIGATION IS SUCH, That if the above bounden Robert Humphries and Thomas C. Humphries as Administrators cum testamento annexo of the Estate and Effects of Susan Humphries late of Greenspond aforesaid, deceased, do make, or cause to be made, a just, true, and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of them the said Robert Humphries and Thomas C. Humphries as such Administrators cum testamento annexo or to the hands or possession of any other person, or persons, for them and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the nineteenth day of April next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other the Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of her death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of them the said Robert Humphries and Thomas C. Humphries or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for them shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true account of their said Administration, on or before the nineteenth day of October which will be in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty-nine and afterwards from time to time as they shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue, and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.

George Edgar of Greenspond aforesaid maketh oath and saith that on the eleventh day of January Anno Domini eighteen hundred and eighty four he, this deponent, was present and did see Susan Humphries, the Testatrix named in the paper writing hereto annexed, duly sign by making her mark, publish and declare the same as and for her last will and testament in the presence of this deponent and of John McDonald the other subscribing witness thereto. That before so signing the said paper writing as aforesaid the same was read over and explained to the said Testatrix in the presence of this deponent and said John McDonald. That deponent and the said John McDonald then and there subscribed their names to the said paper writing as such witnesses in the presence of the said Testatrix and of each other, all present at the same time. That the said Testatrix at the time she so signed and published the said paper writing was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding to the best of deponent's knowledge and belief.

Notice

After three days from the date hereof application will be made to the Honourable the Supreme Court of Newfoundland or to one of the Honorable the Judges thereof for letters of administration cum testament annexo of the Estate of Susan Humphries, late of Greenspond, widow, deceased, to be granted to Robert and Thomas Humphries of Greenspond, legatees under the will and next of kin.

That I have not in any way acted as Executor of said Will nor have I in any way intermeddled with the affairs of the said Estate, the said Will or the Trusts thereof.

Humbly Sheweth

That Susan Humphries late of Greenspond aforesaid, widow deceased, died on or about the month of October Anno Domini eighteen hundred and eighty six with a will which is hereunto annexed marked A.
That at the time of the decease of the said late Susan Humphries she was possessed of property and effects of the probable value of five hundred dollars.
That no letters of probate or administration to said Estate have been granted.
That George Skelton and the Reverend William Howe who were appointed Executors under the said will have renounced.
Your petitioners as legatees and next of kin therefore pray that your Honorable or one of the Honorable the Judges thereof will grant
