To Wit
Charles N. Clift late of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland, Merchant, maketh oath and saith that on the 9th day of April A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine at Harbor Grace in the said Island, he, this deponent was present and did see Alexander Clift late of Harbor Grace the Testator named in the paper writing hereto annexed, duly sign publish and declare the said annexed paper writing as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of this Deponent and of Emma Gardner, the other subscribing witness thereto. That Deponent and said Emma Gardner then and there signed their names to such Will and such witnesses in the presence of the said Testator and of each other and that at the time of the said Execution of the said Will the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of Deponent's knowledge and belief.

          This is the Will of Mr. Alexander Clift residing in Harvey Street, Harbour Grace in the Island of Newfoundland. I give and devise all my Estate and Effects, real and personal. over which I have any power of disposition by will, unto my beloved wife Susanna, absolutely, and I appoint my wife sole executor of this my Will, and I hereby revoke all former Wills and Codicils.
Dated this ninth of April one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine.

Notice

          Three days after the date hereof application will be made to one of the Honorable the Judges of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland for Probate to the Will of Alexander Clift, late of Harbor Grace, H.M. Collector of Customs, deceased to be granted to Susannah Clift, Widow of said deceased, the Executrix named in said Will.
          Dated at St. John's this 29th day of June A.D. 1889.

          I hereby certify that the notice on the other side hereof written has been posted up in my office from the date thereof to the present and that no caveat or other objection has been entered thereto.

The Petition of Susana (sic) Clift of Harbor Grace in the Island of Newfoundland, Widow

Humbly Sheweth

          That your Petitioner's husband Alexander Clift late of Harbor Grace, Her Majesty's Collector of Customs, died at Harbor Grace aforesaid on or about the twenty first day of June last past leaving him surviving his Widow, your Petitioner.
          That said deceased at the time of his decease was possessed of money, property and effects within the jurisdiction of your Honorable Court of the probable value of Two Thousand Dollars.
          That said deceased left a Will which is hereunto annexed and which said Will has been proven in due form of law by the affidavit of Charles N. Clift one of the subscribing witnesses thereto.

          That under the said Will your Petitioner has been appointed Sole Executrix.
          Your Petitioner therefore prays that Probate to the said Will may be granted to her and as in duty bound she will ever pray.
          Dated at Harbor Grace this 12th day of July A.D. 1889.

You shall swear that you believe this to be the true last Will and Testament of Alexander Clift late of Harbor Grace, His Majesty's Collector of Customs, deceased.
You shall swear that you will pay all the Debts and Legacies of the Deceased, so far as the Goods shall extend and the Law shall bind you; and that you will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of all and every the Goods, Rights and Credits of the deceased, together with a just and true account into the Registry of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, when you shall be lawfully called thereto: And you shall further swear that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits, and Effects of the said Alexander Clift, deceased and of which he died possessed, do not, according to the best of your knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of  Two Thousand Two Hundred Dollars.

So help you God.
