NEWFOUNDLAND } AFFIDAVIT You shall swear that you believe this to be the true Last Will and Testament of James Chalmers Scott late of St. Johns in the Central District of the Island of Newfoundland Accountant deceased. You shall swear that you will pay all the Debts and Legacies of the Deceased, so far as the Goods shall extend and the Law shall bind you: and that you will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of all and every the Goods, Rights and Credits of the deceased, together with a just and true account into the Registry of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, when you shall be lawfully called thereto: And you shall further swear that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said Deceased, and of which he died possessed, do not according to the best of your knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of three thousand dollars So help you God Alice E. Scott Sworn before me at St. John's Prescott Emerson

SUPREME COURT OF NEWFOUNDLAND To Wit } Catherine Palfrey of St. Johns ??? wife of James? Palfrey but whose name before her marriage was Catherine Cose? maketh oath and saith that on the second day of May A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty ??? at St. Johns aforesaid she this deponent was present and did see James Chalmers Scott late of St. Johns Accountant the Testator named in the paper writing hereto annexed, duly sign publish and declare the said annexed paper writing as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of this Deponent and of Alice Handlon the other subscribing witness thereto. That Deponent and said Alice Handlon then and there signed their names to such Will as such witnesses in the presence of the said Testator and of each other and that at the time of the said Execution of the said Will the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of Deponent's knowledge and belief. This is the last will and testament of James Chalmers Scott of No. 38 Freshwater Road St. Johns Newfoundland. I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to my wife Alice Elson Scott, her heirs, executors and administrators for her and their own use and benefit absolutely and for ever, all my estate and effects, both real and personal, whatsoever and wheresoever, and of what nature and quality soever ; and I hereby appoint her, the said Alice Elson Scott, sole executrix of this my will. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this second day of May one thousand eight hundred and eighty seven. James Chalmers Scott Signed by the said James Chalmers Scott in the presence of us, present at the same time, who, in his presence, and in the presence of each other, attest and subscribe our names as witnesses hereto. To the Honorable the The petition of Alice Elson Scott of St. Johns Newfoundland Widow Humbly Sheweth that your petitioner's late husband James Chalmers Scott late of St. Johns aforesaid, accountant departed this life on the thirtieth day of July last, having made his last will and testament dated the second day of May Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and eighty seven. That the said deceased left him surviving your petitioner his widow and four children the oldest of which is ??? years of age
