ST. JOHN'S }I do swear that I believe that Thomas Hogan late of
To Wit          }Broad Cove near Kings Cove, in the Northern District of Newfoundland Planter deceased, died without a Will; and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay his debts, so far as his Goods will extend: and that I will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of my Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when I shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased which he died possessed of, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of one thousand two hundred dollars.

Be it Remembered That on this 25th day of July in the Fifty second Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty-eight personally appeared Johanna Hogan of Saint John's in the Central District Spinster, James Fox of St. John's aforesaid Merchant and John Fox St. John's aforesaid Merchant and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal Sum of two thousand four hundred Dollars to be had, made and levied on their Goods, Chattels and Effects, jointly and severally, if Default is made in any of the conditions following :---

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Johanna Hogan as Administratrix of the Estate and Effects of Thomas Hogan late of Broad Cove near Kings Cove in the Northern District, Planter deceased, do make or cause to be made, a just, true, and perfect inventory of all and singular the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of her the said Johanna Hogan as such Administratrix or to the hands or possession of any other person, or persons, for him and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the 25th day of January next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other the Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of his death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of her the said Johanna Hogan or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for her shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true account of her said Administration, on or before the 25th day of July which will be in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty-nine and afterwards from time to time as she shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue, and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.

To the Honourable the Supreme Court or one of the Honourable the Judges thereof

          The Petition of Johanna Hogan at present of S. John's Spinster

Humbly Sheweth

          That Petitioners Father Thomas Hogan late of Broad Cove near Kings Cove in the Northern District Planter deceased died at Kings Cove in the year One thousand Eight hundred and Eighty one leaving a Widow Mary Hogan since dead and one son and five daughters viz John Hogan (since dead having died unmarried and intestate) and five daughters viz: Mary (since dead leaving a husband one John Walsh of Kings Cove) Anastatia (since dead having died unmarried and intestate) Catherine (unmarried and living on the property of the deceased at Broad Cove) and Ellen widow of the late Philip Matthews of Kings cove, and your Petitioner Johanna Hogan.
          That deceased died intestate and was possessed of property consisting of House, fishing property and lands at Broad Cove at Kings Cove at the time of his death of the probable value of about one thousand dollars

          That neither probate to any will nor administration to the Estate and Effects of the said Thomas Hogan has as yet been granted to any one

          Your Petitioner therefore prays that Administration to the Estate and Effects may be granted to her or to such other person as Your Lordships may direct to Administer the Estate and Effects of the said Thomas Hogan
          And as in duty bound she will ever pray

          At the instance of Johanna Hogan praying that administration ??? the Estate and Effects of the said Thomas Hogan may be granted to her as a daughter of deceased
          Upon reading the petition of the said Johanna Hogan and upon having Mr. Emerson of counsel for her, it is ordered that John Walsh, Catherine Hogan, and Ellen Matthews do shew cause if any they have why administration of the Estate and Effects of the said Thomas Hogan should not be granted to the said Johanna Hogan by filing in the Office of the Chief Clerk and Registrar of the Supreme Court and serving on the said Johanna Hogan an answer containing the grounds on which they resist the said application within ten days from the date of the service of this citation, otherwise the claim of the said Johanna Hogan will be taken to be admitted by them and Administration granted to her accordingly.
