Will of John B. Easterbrook
from Newfoundland will books volume 8 pages 53 & 54 probate year 1906.

In the Estate of
     John B. Easterbrook       deceased.

This is the last will and testament of me John B. Easterbrook of Pouch Cove in the Island of Newfoundland, Mail Courier, hereby revoking all former wills and Testaments made by me.

  • First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Maria all moneys invested by me in the Newfoundland Savings Bank and in Pouch Cove Methodist Church, and all other moneys and debts to which I may be entitled at the time of my death, subject to the payment by her of all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses.
  • Second. I give and bequeath to my son John R. the pieces or parcels of land with the dwelling house and out houses thereon which he now occupies, and also his mother's family Bible.
  • Third. I give and bequeath to my daughter Alice Gertrude the piece of land now in her possession and upon which her husband has erected a dwelling-house, bounded on the South by Connors Road, on the east by the main Road, on the west by other property of myself and on the north by the forge.
  • Fourth. I give and bequeath to my son Walter Berkley the said forge together with the land upon which it is erected situate at Pouch Cove aforesaid but subject to the payment by him of the sum of fifteen dollars to my said son John R.
  • Fifth. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Maria for and during her natural life or until she remarries all the rest residue and remainder of the property of which I shall die possessed of every nature and kind whatsoever.
  • Sixth. I also will and direct that after the death or re-marriage of my said wife, all my land at Pouch Cove, not hereinbefore specifically bequeathed, together with the dwelling house in which I now reside, barns and houses and their contents and all household furniture, horses, cattle carriages, cars, sleighs, and farming utensils and all the rest residue and remainder of my property of which I shall die possessed shall be the property of my said son Walter Berkley.
  • I appoint my said wife Maria Executrix and my brother-in-law Charles Pippy executor hereto

Dated at St. John's this First day of March Anno Domini one thousand nine hundred and six John B. Easterbrook.
Signed published and declared by the said John B. Easterbrook as and for his last will and Testament, in our presence, who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other subscribe our names as witnesses hereto. Henry Shea.     Chas H Hutchings

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
