Christiana Down

 

Will of Christiana Down from Newfoundland will books volume 5 pages 291-292 probate year 1888.
This will is also recorded on pages 226-227 in this volume.
There are a few differences in this will and the one on page 226, her name for example is not Catherine, and there are little things like the 1863 in numbers instead of written out, the witness is Boone not Bovine, and the administration note etc.

Last will & testament of
Christiana Down of St. John's married
married woman deceased.

Know all men by these presents that I Christiana Down do hereby will and bequeath to my husband Robert Walter Down master boot and shoe maker of Saint John's Newfoundland.
Item first a dwelling house and ground and garden situated near the barking kettle bounded on the north west by Newman & Cos, meadow on the south by New Gower Street
Also I will and bequeath to Robert Walter Down aforesaid Item second my interest being the one sixth part of four tenements adjoining west of the aforesaid property
Also I will and bequeath to Robert Walter Down aforesaid Item third. My interest in the dwelling house yardage and water privileges at present occupied by the said Walter Robert Down during the unexpired term of lease
Also I will and bequeath to Robert Walter Down aforesaid Item Fourth my interest in the premises now occupied by Mssrs William Hounsell & Co.
Also I will and bequeath to Robert Walter Down aforesaid. Item fifth my interest in a dwelling house and ground now occupied by Eugene McCarthy situate near Customs House Hill
Also I will and bequeath to my son Samuel Down Item sixth my share of my mothers household furniture at Bread & Cheese Cove in Bay Bulls Harbour for his own special use and benefit
Christiana Down. In witness whereof we the undersigned do affix our seals & signatures this twenty seventh day of July AD 1863 Solomon his X mark Butler Samuel J. Boone. (LS)
