Last will and Testament of
Thomas Dicks of Channel S.D.
Schooner Owner deceased

In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Dicks of Channel in the Southern District of the Island of Newfoundland Schooner owner, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, calling to mind the frailty and uncertainty of human life and being desirous of settling my worldly affairs, and directing how the estates with which it has pleased God to bless me shall be disposed of after my decease while I have strength and capacity so to do, do make and publish this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking and making null and void all other last wills and Testaments by me heretofore made. And first I commend my immortal being to him who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried with little expense or ostentation by my executors hereinafter named

And as to my worldly estate and all the property real personal or mixed of which I shall die seized and possessed or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease I devise bequeath and dispose thereof in the manner following to wit: My will is that all my just debts and funeral charges shall by my executors hereinafter named be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as shall by them be found convenient.
I give devise and bequeath to my eldest son George Edward Dicks one half of my schooner the Maggie A with the privilege of either buying out the remaining half from my executors for the sum of eight hundred dollars or of working out the half share above mentioned in the said schooner the Maggie A.
I give devise and bequeath to my wife Sarah Dicks the use of my dwelling houses with their appurtenances situate in Channel aforesaid and the interest and income that may annually accrue from all monies or property real personal or mixed of which I shall die seized and possessed or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease to be devoted by her to the support of herself and of my children Mahala, Patience, Susanna E. Solomon, Harriet L. and Thomas Dicks during her lifetime or widowhood. But should my said wife marry again, then all my estate, real, personal or mixed shall be divided by my executors between my six last named children share and share alike. And I also direct that all monies belonging to my said estate are to remain invested as they are at present and that the principal of the same shall not be drawn for the purpose of being placed or invested elsewhere.

Lastly I do nominate and appoint Solomon Gillam of Channel aforesaid schooner owner and John E. Norman also of Channel aforesaid merchant to be the executors of this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand this Twenty third day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety three. (Sgd) Thomas Dicks. Signed by the said Thomas Dicks the Testator in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other at the same time subscribe our name as witnesses. (Sgd) N. Smith of Channel aforesaid Postmaster. (Sgd) R. L. Squarey of Channel aforesaid Magistrate

I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of Thomas Dicks deceased
