Will of Mary Crawford

Last Will and Testament of
Mary Crawford of St. John's
Widow deceased.

      This is the will and Testament of me Mary Crawford of St. John's Newfoundland I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by my executrix and executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my death. I give and bequeath one half of the houses and one half of all the properties and one half of the rents arising therefrom belonging to me at my death or any that I may become entitled to by will or otherwise together with all monies ornaments, jewellery, silver silver plate and wearing apparel unto my nice Isabella Amelia Winter daughter of George and Leonora Sophia Winter absolutely. I bequeath the other half of the aforesaid houses and one half of all the aforesaid properties and one half of all the aforesaid rents arising therefrom to my sister Amelia Winter for her life. And from and after the death of the said Amelia Winter I bequeath the same to the said Isabella Amelia Winter and it shall not be subject to or liable for the debts control or engagements of any person or persons whatsoever and that the receipt or receipts of my said niece Isabella Amelia Winter or of any person or persons whom my said niece Isabella Amelia Winter by any note or notes in writing under her hand shall from time to time direct or appoint shall be a sufficient discharge to my executrix or executors hereinafter named. The remainder portion of my goods chattels and furniture is to be held and enjoyed by my sister Amelia Winter during her life and at her death is to become the property of my said niece Isabella Amelia Winter absolutely. But in case of my aforesaid niece Isabella Amelia Winter dying before me then all left to her in this my will shall become the property of my above named sister Amelia Winter during her life for her sole use and maintenance and in case of both my said niece Isabella Amelia Winter and my sister Amelia Winter dying before me or without making a will all left to them in this my will shall be given to my niece Marion Lenora Winter daughter of George and Leonora Sophia Winter. I do hereby appoint my said niece Isabella Amelia Winter as my Executrix and my friends Hon. George L. Rendell and Henry Cooke Segt as my executors in Trust that they will convey and carry out my desires as above indicated they reimbursing themselves for all necessary expenses and finally I hereby revoke and make void all former and other wills and Testamentary dispositions by me at any time heretofore made. And I declare this to be my last will and Testament in witness whereof I the said Mary Crawford have hereunto set my hand and seal at St. John's Newfoundland this tenth day of April Eighteen hundred and ninety. (Sgd) Mary Crawford (LS) Signed Sealed and published by the said Mary Crawford as and for her last will and Testament in the presence of us who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses at the time and place above written (sgd) Arthur C. F. Wood. (Sgd) Jessie A. Brancombe.

Codicil - This is a codicil to my last will and Testament hereinbefore written and dated the tenth day of April A.D. 1890. I revoke so much of my said will as relates to the appointment of Executors thereof and I appoint my said niece Isabella Amelia Winter sole Executrix of my said will. Dated at St. John's this sixth day of April A.D. 1895. (Sgd) Mary X Crawford witnesses (sgd) J.S. Winter (sgd) Selina Gribble.

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament and codicil of Mary Crawford deceased
