GEORGE EDWARD COPE.

GEORGE EDWARD COPE of 601 Chester Road Erdington and 154 Villa Street Lowells both in the city of Birmingham Pearl Button Manufacturer hereby revoke all testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and declare this to be my last will which I make this sixteenth day of June one thousand nine hundred and twenty eight I appoint my wife Florence Ada Cope and my son George Francis Cope (hereinafter called "my trustees") to be the EXECUTORS and trustees of my will I bequeath to my brother Herbert Henry Cope the legacy of sum of one hundred pounds free of duty I devise and bequeath all that my share and interest of and in the capital and assets of the business of Pearl Button Manufacturers carried on in copartnership by me and my son at Villa Street Lowells aforesaid under the style of Cope & Son to my son George Francis Cope for his own use and benefit absolutely I direct my trustees to allow my son to have the occupation of the premises on which my said business is carried on at a rental of one hundred and twenty five pounds my said son doing all repairs and upon such other terms and conditions as my trustees may agree and either by way of tenancy or lease and in case of disagreement the terms and conditions shall be settled by the Solicitor for the time being of my trustees I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Winifred Ada Johnson for her own absolute use my properties in Welford Road and Holly Road Handsworth as well as my present estate and interest herein as that to which I shall be entitled after the death of my sister Caroline Cope and the sum of eight hundred and twenty five pounds now on mortgage to Mrs. Ida Gwendoline Hart on security of the dwelling house No 1 Broom Road Westbury on Trym I devise and bequeath all the residue of my real and personal estate not hereby or by any codicil hereto otherwise specifically disposed of and which I can dispose of by will in any manner I think proper either as beneficially entitled thereto or under any general power unto my trustees upon trust that my trustees shall sell the said real estate (including chattels real) and call in sell and convert into money such part of my personal estate as does not consist of money with power to postpone such sale and conversion for such period as my trustees without being liable to account may think proper and so that any reversionary interest be not sold until it falls into possession unless my trustees see special reason for sale My trustees shall out of the moneys to arise from the sale and conversion of my said real and personal estate and out of my ready money pay my funeral and testamentary expenses estate duties (including estate duty) and my debts except mortgage debts (if any) on property specifically devised or bequeathed which debts are to be paid primarily out of the property charged therewith and shall also pay or provide for the legacies and annuities hereby or by any codicil hereto bequeathed but so that all legacies and annuities and the duties on all legacies and annuities bequeathed free of duty shall be paid primarily out of my personal estate My trustees shall invest the residue of the said money in their names in or upon any of the investments hereby authorised with power for my trustees at discretion to change such investments for others of a like nature My trustees shall stand possessed of the investments hereinbefore directed to be made or authorised to be retained (including any part of my residuary estate remaining unconverted) and the investments for the time being representing the same (hereinafter called the trust fund) and of the annual income thereof Upon the trusts following that is to say Upon trust to pay the said income to my wife during her life and from and after the death of my said wife I direct that the capital and income of the trust fund shall be held in trust for my said son and daughter in equal shares, My trustees shall retain in their names the share of my said daughter in the trust fund only Upon trust to pay the income thereof to such daughter during her life for her separate and inalienable use and after her death upon trust as to the capital and income thereof for such of her issue as she may by will or codicil appoint and in default of appointment and so far as any partial appointment shall not extend in trust for such of her children as being male shall attain the age of twenty one years or being female shall attain that age or previously marry and if more than one equally but if there shall be no child who shall live to attain a vested interest therein then Upon trust for my said son Absolutely Provided nevertheless that it shall be lawful for my said daughter notwithstanding and in delegation of the preceding trusts to appoint by will or codicil that the income of the whole or any part of her share shall be paid to any husband who may survive her for his life or for any lesser period or determinable or any event my wife during her life shall have power to appoint a new trustee or new trustees of my will And I declare that all moneys liable to be invested under this will may be invested in some or any of the securities following that is to say 1. In the purchase or and mortgage of freehold leasehold or copyhold property in Great Britain 2. In or upon any stocks funds or securities of or guaranteed by the Government of Great Britain or of any British Possession (except India) including the stocks or securities of any railway or other company in Great Britain or any British Possession (except India) having a fixed rate of interest thereon guaranteed as aforesaid. 3. In or upon the mortgage debentures or bonds of any Municipal corporation in England or the debentures mortgages annuities or securities of any Incorporated company or Limited Liability Company in Great Britain paying at the time of investment a dividend on its ordinary stock or shares. 4. And as to any moneys awaiting permanent investment in any joint stock or the banking company. In WITNESS whereof I have to this my will contained in this and the two preceding sheets of paper set my hand the day and year first- before written.
