Will of Michael Comerford

In re
     Michael Comerford deceased.

      In the name of God Amen I Michael Comerford of St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland a pensioner of Her Majesty’s Customs Department being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do hereby make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills and testament or codicils which I may have made.

First I direct that all my just debts and reasonable funeral expenses be paid.

Secondly I devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Catherine all my interest in the lands on which my present dwelling house is built leasehold as well as fee simple and all the houses thereto attached to hold to her use during her life which she remain a widow but if she marry it does not be any longer hers and after her death or marriage all the said lands and dwelling houses shall become the property of my beloved nephew Michael Comerford.

Thirdly I bequeath to my beloved wife all my household goods chattels and furniture to hold them during her lifetime for her domestic use and to preserve the same for my said nephew Michael Comerford to whom I bequeath the same after her death

Fourthly I bequeath all my monies in the Savings Bank at the time of my death to my said nephew and my niece Mary Ann Comerford share and share alike.

Fifthly out of all other monies which I may possess at the time of my death I bequeath the sum of thirty pounds to the Right Reverent Fr. Power Bishop of St. John’s to celebrate a High Mass and office for my wife and myself and also to celebrate low Masses.

Sixthly I direct and appoint that my executors hereinafter named shall take all the rest residue and remainder of my monies goods chattels and effects (except my watch which I bequeath to my said nephew Michael Comerford) and apply them or the interest accruing therefrom to the decent support and Christian burial of my said wife Catherine provided she remain single and in case of her death happening before mine I devise and bequeath all the goods and property of which I may die possessed to my beloved kinsfolk in manner following that is to say the dwelling house and lands and furniture thereof to my said nephew Michael Comerford and all the rest residue and remainder of my estate goods and effects to him the said Michael Comerford and my niece Mary Ann Comerford share and share alike.       Lastly I appoint my said nephew Michael Comerford and John Power Junior Cooper my neighbor as executors of this my last will and testament.       In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal on the twenty fifth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy one.
