Will of Nathan Clarke
from Newfoundland will books volume 9 pages 589-591 probate year 1913

In re
      Nathan Clarke          deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me Nathan Clarke of Brigus, Master Mariner.
First I revoke all former wills.
Second: I will and bequeath to my wife Ruth Clarke the sum of Fifty Dollars a year ($50.00) for her support during her life time and so long as she remains unmarried.
Third:- I will and bequeath to my wife Ruth Clarke my schooner her sails tackle apparel and furniture and all my traps and fishing gear.
Fourth:- I will and bequeath unto my two grandchildren, Rankin Archibald Clarke, son of James Clarke, and Nathan Victor Clarke, son of John Victor Clarke, the Eastern part of my River Head land from the stone cellar to the salt water share and share alike.
Fifth:- The remainder of my said land together with my dwelling house and household furniture I will and bequeath to my wife, Ruth Clarke during her lifetime and so long as she shall remain unmarred, and after the death or remarriage of my said wife I will and bequeath the same unto my said grandchildren Rankin Archibald Clarke and Nathan Victor Clare share and share alike.
Sixth:- I will and bequeath one half of the pew in the Methodist Church at Brigus to my wife during her lifetime and so long as she shall remain unmarried - After her death or remarriage I will and bequeath the same unto my son James Clarke or in the event of his being then deceased, to his eldest son then surviving.
Seventh:- I will and bequeath the sum of Four Dollars each to my seven children, namely John Clarke, Anne Roberts Maria Roberts, Margaret Clarke, Jemima Hillyard, James Clarke and George Clarke.
Eighth:- All the rest residue and remainder of all property of which I shall die possessed or in any right entitled at the time of my death I will and bequeath to my son James Clarke - or should he not survive me, then to his eldest son surviving me.
Ninth:- It is my will and desire that all the property which was my wifes when I married her shall be regarded as having been her own separate property during her lifetime and to be dealth with as such in the event of her surviving me.
Tenth:- I appoint Robert Munden Clarke of Brigus Executor of this my Last will and Testament    Dated at Brigus this 21st day of October A.D. 1911 - Nathan his x mark Clarke - Signed Published and Declared by the said Testator as and for his last will and Testament in our presence who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses, the same being signed by the Testator affixing his mark hereto and the same having been first read over and explained to the said Testator ---- Witness Robert Clarke John Wilcox
