Will of William Clapp from Newfoundland will books volume 5 pages 265-268 probate year 1888.
This will has a line drawn through the preamble and the closing, striking out all but the will itself. We have included those anyway.

Last will and Testament of
William Clapp late of Exeter
Devon, England, Surgeon
Deceased.

Be it known that upon ???? being made in the District Registry attached to the Probate Division of her Majesty's High Court of Justice at Exeter it appears that on the fourteenth day of August 1888, the last will and Testament with a codicil thereto of William Clapp late of No. 14 West Southernhay in the County of the City of Exeter, Surgeon, deceased, who died on the twenty seventh day of May 1888 at No. 14 West Southernhay aforesaid and had at the time of his death a fixed place of abode at Exeter within the District of the County of Devon was formed by the Reverend William John Clapp of Seaford in the County of Devon, Clerk, and George Tucker Clapp of the city of Exeter Surgeon, sons of the deceased, the executors named on the said will, and which probate now remains of record in the said District Registry. The time tenor of the said will and codicil as in the words following, to wit: - In humble thankfulness to Almighty God for all his mercies I William Clapp of 14 West Southernhay, Exeter, hereby declare this to be my last will and Testament I give and desire all that my dwelling house in which I now reside situate and being No. 14 West Southernhay, Exeter, and also that my freehold friea situate in the Parish of West Teignmouth, Devon, called Crombepark to my son George Tucker Clapp his heirs executors administrators and assigns, I give and bequeath to him also all my shares of certain monies on the consolidated annuities of the Bank of ??? bequeathed to me by my sister ???? Clapp after the decease of my sister ??? and also all my furniture, linen, pictures, books and other household effects in my said dwelling house except my plate which I give as hereafter mentioned I give devise and bequeath all that part of my property situated in Saint John's Newfoundland, consisting of lands and buildings which formerly belonged to my cousin Lady Tomkin, and also all my fields and closes of land with the erections therein called or known as Heargatte Parks situate in the Parish of West Teignmouth in the County of Devon unto and equally between my sons John Tucker Clapp and Cecil Robert Mainwaring Clapp their heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns together with all rents which may be due from the said properties from the date of the last payment. I give devise and bequeath all that my part of other property in Saint John's Newfoundland, consisting of lands and buildings which formerly belonged to my father unto my son Frances Chapman Clapp, his heirs, executors administrators and assigns. I give all my plate to be equally divided between my sons William John Clapp, Cecil Robert Mainwaring Clapp and Frances Chapman Clapp. I give to my dear sister Caroline Clapp the sum of ten guineas as a remembrance of her kindness to me.

All the rest residue and remainder of my property estate and effects after payment of my debts and funeral and testamentary expenses I give devise and bequeath to my son William John Clapp. I devise all estates vested in me as trustee or mortgagee, to my sons William John Clapp and George Tucker Clapp, subject to the equities affecting the same respectively, and I appoint my said sons William John Clapp and George Tucker Clapp executors of this my will.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this seventeenth day of February one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six. - William Clapp Signed by the William Clapp and declared by him to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who in his presence and in the presence of one another have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.

This is a codicil to the will of one William Clapp which will bears date the seventeenth day of February one thousand eight hundred and eighty six. I hereby revoke the devise contained in my will of all that my part of other property in Saint John's Newfoundland, consisting of lands and buildings which formerly belonged to my father to my son Frances Chapman Clapp his heirs executors administrators and assigns and in place and stead thereof. I give and devise the same hereditaments and premises and also the sum of nine hundred and seventy two pounds Government New 2 ½ per cent now standing in the names of one the said William Clapp and my sons William John Clapp and George Tucker Clapp (subject to my sister Carolines life interest) to my sons John Tucker Clapp and Cecil Robert Mainwaring Clapp, their heirs executors Administrators and assigns upon trust to receive the annual rents and income thereof and (after payment thereunto of all costs and expenses and necessary deductions) to pay the same income half yearly to my dear son Frances Chapman Clapp for and during his life or until he shall by his own act or operation of law forfeit lose or in any way attempt to anticipate or part with the said income in any part thereof then on the happening of every such event or in his ?????? first happen then upon trust for the ??? of my said son Frances Chapman Clapp between them if more than one of if any one of them should have died leaving issue then such issue shall take his or her parents share equally between them if more than one, but in case my said son Frances Chapman Clapp shall die without issue then I give and devise the same hereditaments and premises including the said sum of nine hundred and seventy two pounds to my said sons John Tucker Clapp and Cecil Robert Mainwaring Clapp their heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely equally between them share and share alike and in all other respects I confirm my said will.
In witness I have hereto and to the preceding sheet set my hand this fourteenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight. William Clapp.
Signed by the said William Clapp in the presence of us present together the same time and who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto set our names as witnesses.

Given at the said District Registry at Exeter, to the time of the aforesaid ??? and the sealing of these presents this tenth day of November 1888. W.H. Bailey District Registrar.
