James Knight to William Danson - Schooner

 

Be it known to all whom it may concern that I James ?? Knight of Harbor Grace in the Island of Newfoundland Cooper and sole owner of the schooner called the John of Harbor Grace, having received from Alexander Campbell Agent for William Danson of said Harbor Grace Merchant, the sum of two hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain and thereby contracted a debt to that amount, which I am at present unable to pay of or discharge therefore as a security for the payment of the said sum of two hundred pounds, with five pounds per cent per annum interest thereon due unto the said William Danson as aforesaid; I do hereby make over mortgage alienate and bind unto the said William Danson his heirs and assigns, the said schooner called the John the copy of the register of which is as follows
In pursuance of an Act ratified in the twenty sixth year of the reign of King George the third instituted an Act for the further increase and encouragement of shipping and navigation, James ??? Knight of Harbor Grace in Newfoundland Cooper having taken and subscribed the oath required by this Act, and having sworn that he is sole owner of the ship or vessel called the John of Harbor Grace, whereof he the said James ??? Knight is at present Master; and that the said ship or vessel was built at Bell Isle in Newfoundland aforesaid this present year one thousand eight hundred and three as by certificate of Peter Pippy Ship builder doth appear and Charles Garland Surveying officer at Harbor Grace, having certified to us that the said ship or vessel is bartered.
