Mary Burton

 

Know all men by these presents that I Mary Burton of Bonavista in the Northern district of the Island of Newfoundland widow of the late William Burton of Bonavista aforesaid planter in consideration of the sum of two pounds ten shillings current money of the island aforesaid to me in hand paid by the Rev. AC Bayly episcopal minister now resident at Bonavista aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of hereof I do acknowledge have bargain and by these presents do bargain sell release sold released granted and confirmed unto the Right Reverend Edward Field Lord Bishop of Newfoundland and to his successors all and to all his successors all and singular that piece or parcel of land or garden grounds situated between my dwelling house at Bonavista aforesaid and the parsonage grounds abutted and bounded as follows, that is to say by a line commencing at a point on the road by the parsonage at the northeast angle of land in possession of the Lord Bishop of Newfoundland and surrveyed by the magistrate in 1853 south seventy one degrees east one chain by the said road to the northwest angle of my strip of garden grounds around the dwelling aforesaid thence abbutting and bounded on and by the said strip of garden ground now in my possession south thirteen degrees thirty minutes west one hundred and six links thence bounded by Samuel Mifflins ground North eighty eight degrees West one chain and thence on the West by the parsonage grounds North twelve degrees East one chain and thirty six links as by the following diagram will more fully appear.

and all the estate, right title interest property claim and demand whatsoever both at law and in equity of her the said Mary Burton and her deceased husband of in or to the same and every one of them respectively to have and to hold take and enjoy the said piece or parcel of land or garden ground and all and singular other premises herein before bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be with their and every of these rights members and appurtenances unto and by the said Lord Bishop of Newfoundland and his successors to and for the use of the Episcopal Mission at Bonavista for ever and I the said Mary Burton for myself my executors and administrators all and singular and assigns and against all and every other person or persons what so ever shall and will warrent and defend by these presents of which piece or parcel of of ground I the said Mary Burton have put the said Lord Bishop of Newfoundland in full possession by delivering to the said Edmund AC Bayly as his representative the afore memtioned piece or parcel of land according to law.
In witness whereon I the said Mary Burton have here on to set my hand and seal at Bonavista this tweenty second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three.
