Will of David Candow from Newfoundland will books volume 5 pages 255-260 probate year 1888 Last will and Testament of This is the last will and Testament of me David Candow Stipendiary magistrate residing in Bonavista Newfoundland I will and bequeath to my grandson David Candow son of Archibald Candow my dwelling house and all other buildings and lands belonging to me situated in Tickle Cove Bonavista Bay. I will and bequeath to my wife Ann Candow my dwelling house and all other premises together with all the land belonging to me situated in Bonavista also all my household furniture and everything else contained in the dwelling house or outhouses together with all the money I have invested in government debentures and in thirty shares of water company stock. The receipt and Scrip for the debentures and stock are in the care and custody of John Syms Esq St. John's ??? to be by ??? John Syme Esq as the ??? ??? and I also will and bequeath to my wife Ann Candow all the money belonging to me in the Union Bank of Newfoundland also all money in my house or due me by any person or persons or by the government at the time of my death. I also will and bequeath to my wife Ann Candow my gold watch. And further it is my express will and desire that my wife Ann Candow aforesaid shall have for her own personal use during her lifetime the whole of my estate money property lands and each and every other belonging to me at the time of my death except what has been hereinbefore disposed of that is to say my property in Tickle Cove bequeathed to my grandson David Candow son of Archibald Candow. I will and bequeath after he death of my wife Ann Candow to my son Archibald Candow my large mahogany table two cane bottomed chairs one drawing room chair with leather covered seat and one iron bed stead with feather bed and bedding. It is also my express will and desire that after the death of my wife Ann Candow the government debentures belonging to me, and the shares in the water company also belonging to me be sold and the amount realized to be added to the amount remaining on deposit in the Union Bank or any other Bank. And the amount remaining, after all expenses in connection with my estate are paid to be divided subject to the deduction to be hereinafter specified amongst my surviving sons and daughter Ann Margaret Prince if she is living share and share alike, but in the event of Ann Margaret Prince aforesaid being dead her share to be divided amongst my surviving sons share and share alike. I will and bequeath to my grandson Errol Candow son of the late Robert Black Candow lately resident of Canada the sum of twenty pounds currency to be deposited in the Union Bank in his name that is to say in the name of Errol Candow and there to remain until he Errol Candow attains the age of twenty one years, but in the event of his Errol Candows death before attaining the age of twenty one years the principal with accumulated interest to be paid to my granddaughter Jessie Candow daughter of James Candow on attaining the age of twenty one. Codicil to the within will. I the undersigned David Candow Testator in the within will, do hereby cause and revoke that portion of said will where I bequeath my property on Bonavista to my son James Candow that is to say my dwelling house, outhouses, garden and land the said property as therein specified to be sold after my wife's (Ann Candow) death and the amount realized to be divided amongst my surviving sons or daughter share and share alike as all other monies named herein. It is also my express wish and desire that no money in any shape be paid to any of my children after my decease or during my wife Ann Candows widowhood without the consent of all my executors only such monies as shall be necessary to her Ann Candow's personal comfort and support to be paid to my wife Ann Candow. Neither my wife Ann Candow nor any nor all of my children to realize on any portion nor all of the aforesaid house, outhouse, garden & lands nor any other property belonging to me until after my wife Ann Candows death.
