Will of Mary Campbell
from Newfoundland will books volume 8 pages 539 to 541 probate year 1909

In re
      Mary Campbell deceased.

      I Mary Campbell widow of the late Neil Campbell declare this to be my last will and testament revoking all previous wills. I appoint as my Executors my son William and Dr. Nutting Fraser I direct that all the money property and valuables of whatever description which I may be possessed of or entitled to at the time of my death shall be divided equally among my children, namely Janet Elizabeth Davidson, Ida Mary    Annie Smith, William, Florence Helen and Fanny Smith.
In as much as the share of my daughter Janet Elizabeth Davidson was left in my hands at the time when the interest of the children who were then under age was secured by order of the Court on Premises in Water St. St. John’s, then under mortgage: and in as much as she never received her share. I direct my Executors to pay her out of my estate such a sum as will make the share she shall receive equal to that of each of the other children, so that all may be placed on a perfect equality.
My son Colin having already received his share of the estate is not to participate in the foregoing distribution : and as he is at present unable to provide for himself. I desire that as long as my unmarried children have a home he shall share it with them : and that they shall do all in their power to help him.
I desire to make the following special bequests which are to be excepted from the foregoing distribution

  • To my son William I bequeath all my silver plate marked “C”.
  • The remainder of my plate to be divided in equal shares among the other children.
  • The three photographs of my late husband, of my deceased son and daughter I bequeath to my daughter Janet E. Davidson, Ida Mary and Annie Smith - one to each
  • The family group     I give to my daughter Florence, Helen.
  • The piano and carriage I give to my daughter Fanny Smith.
  • The whole of my household furniture to go into the general distribution
  • The gold watch and chain of my late husband I bequeath to my son William

In witness whereof I subscribe this my last will and testament in the presence of two witnesses on this fifteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine     Mary Campbell    The undersigned witnesses to the signature of Mary Campbell to this will on February 15th 1899     M. Harvey    Sarah Anne Harvey
