Last Will and Testament of
Joseph Cains of Greenspond
Shopkeeper deceased.
I Joseph Cains of Greenspond
Newfoundland, being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last
will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say: -
1. I give
devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth Oakley all
my property situate at Greenspond & consisting
of houses and land together with the furniture and fittings of said houses
not particularly named and otherwise disposed of in this my will during her
natural life. And at her death all the property hereby devised and bequeathed
to her I give to her son John Joseph Oakley his heirs and
assigns for ever.
2. I also give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth
Oakley the sum of Two hundred dollars ($200.00)
3. I give and bequeath
to S. Stephen's Church, Greenspond, the sum of Forty dollars ($40.00) to be
used to the honour & Glory
of God as the clergyman and Churchwardens shall deem prudent.
4.
All the residue and remainder of my money after my funeral expenses and all
just debts are fully paid I give and bequeath to the children of the aforenamed
Mary Elizabeth Oakley to be equally divided among them.
5.
I give and bequeath to my Grandson John Joseph Oakley my breech
loading gun and also my silver watch.
6. I give and bequeath to my brother
John Cains and to my nephew Darius Stratten all
my wearing apparel to be divided equally between them.
7. My muzzle loading
gun I give to my nephew John Stratten.
8.
My bed and bedclothes I give to my granddaughter Caroline Oakley.
9. The Harmonium now in my possession I give to my granddaughter Elizabeth
Oakley
10.
I hereby appoint my said daughter Mary Elizabeth Oakley sole
executrix of this my will, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be
my last will and Testament.
In witness whereof I Joseph Cains have hereunto
set my hand this twenty seventh day of May A.D. 1893. (Sgd) Joseph
his x mark Cains Subscribed by the Testator in the presence of each of us, and at the
same time declared by him to be his last will and testament. Witness our hands
this twenty seventh day of May A.D. 1893. (Sgd) John Antle C in P.O. (sgd)

I certify the foregoing to be a correct
copy of the last will and Testament of Joseph Cains deceased
