Will of Gregory Byrne from Newfoundland will books volume 5 page 465-466 probate year 1890 Last will and Testament This is the last will and testament of me Gregory Byrne of St. John's Labourer. I give devise and bequeath to my son Daniel the house in which I now reside provided he returns to Newfoundland within twelve months after my decease. In the event of my said son not returning to Newfoundland within the time named I direct that my executor hereinafter named sell my said house and pay over the proceeds to the Roman Catholic Bishop of St. John's for masses for my late wife my daughter Bridget and myself. To Margaret Walkins I bequeath forty dollars and to her mother Mrs. Walkins I bequeath twenty dollars. I also give and bequeath to Margaret Walkins and her mother all the furniture and articles of every description in my kitchen. To Mrs. James Hayes I bequeath the sum of twelve dollars and to my daughter Ellen twenty dollars. To the Reverend Father Scott, O'Brien, and Hearn four dollars each for masses for repose of my soul. All the rest and residue of my estate to be divided by my executor amongst the priests of the Cathedral Parish St. John's for masses for repose of my soul. I hereby nominate and appoint my friend Matthew Fleming of St. John's executor of this my will. St. John's June 15th Gregory his x mark Byrne Signed by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
