Will of Thomas F. Butt from Newfoundland will books volume 14 pages 127-128 probate year 1927

In re
      THOMAS F. BUTT.       DECEASED.

This is the last will and testament of me, Thomas F. Butt, of Saint John's, Accountant.

  1. I hereby revoke all former wills and testaments by me at any time made and make and declare this to be my last will and testament.
  2. I appoint my dear wife Jessie Butt to be sole Executrix of this my will, and after her death I appoint my three sons hereinafter mentioned to execute my estate de bonis non.
  3. I give devise and bequeath to my dear wife for her life-time all my estate real and personal; that is to say: my dwelling house situate on the North side of Maxe Street in the town of Saint John's and all that belongs to me contained in the said house; also any money that I may own at my decease and also all my other property of whatsoever nature and kind and wheresoever situate including my property situate at Blackhead, Bay de Verde. My said wife may in her sole discretion realize any or all of the properties hereinbefore bequeathed to her for life, and expend the proceeds of the same as she may deem fit, but any such monies unexpended by her at her decease shall continue to belong to my estate.
  4. After the death of my said wife I direct that all my estate be converted into cash, and that the process be divided into seven equal shares. Two shares I give, devise and bequeath to my son Charles H. Butt two shares I give devise and bequeath to my son William H. Butt; two shares I give devise and bequeath to my son Walter F. Butt. I direct that the remaining one share be deposited in a safe bank to the credit of my executors de bonis non. I give devise and bequeath this share to my grandson Walter Eric Edgecombe should he attain the age of twenty-one years, and direct that he receive the amount in that event on his twenty-first birthday. Should my said grandson Walter Eric Edgecombe, however, die before attaining the age of twenty-one years, I direct that this share be divided equally among the children then living of my three sons aforenamed.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF I have hereunto subscribed my hand at Saint John's, in the Island of Newfoundland, this eighteenth day of July, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and twenty -four.
