      MATTHEW BUTLER deceased.

      In the name of God Amen.    I, Matthew Butler, of Middle Bight, South Shore in the Electoral District of Harbor Main, Newfoundland, Farmer, being very sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament-    First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Eliza all that I possess (except what will be hereinafter mentioned) viz dwelling house, goods and chattles, stable, cellar, store, cattle, the old horse ralph, and my share of my horse rex, also cart, dray, tackling, all my cultivated and uncultivated land, agricultural implements and all loose gear about my place for her use and benefit-    I also give and bequeath to my wife all the money I may possess at my death after all my just debts are paid-    I give and bequeath to my grandson Matthew Butler son of my son Thomas Frederick all that piece and parcel of land situate and being in Fox Trap in the above district that I bought from Thomas Spry.     My grandson Matthew is not to take possession of the said piece of land, until he is twenty one years old, my wife Eliza and my son Thomas Frederick are to work the land up till that time.    The said piece of land is bound on the West by Fagan’s road, south by William Fagan, North by John Kennedy and East by Henry Fagan-
The dwelling house on the waterside premises is to be kept in repair by my wife, she is to get some person to do it for her.     After the death of my wife my son Thomas Frederick is to take possession of the south part of my waterside premises including the dwelling house, and the land that the dwelling house is on.
The land north of the waterside dwelling house I give and bequeath to my son Eleazer Alfred- All my fishing gear I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Frederick viz caplin boat, seine, and grapplings, my son Thomas Frederick is to get caplin for the ground right through like he always did. The west part of my land at Grealytown is for my son Thomas Frederick where the road cuts off to the river and the house that is on it-    The east part of my land at Grealy town I give to my wife and at her decease it can be divided into two or three shares-    My wife can hire it but cannot sell any of it.    The house on my waterside premised is to be kept there until Thomas Frederick’s children are grown up as they may require it-    My son Philip G. Butler is to have one share of my Grealy town land when he pays his mother the amount of money he owes me viz one hundred dollars currency and the interest also which he did not pay-    
I appoint my wife executrix and my son Thomas Frederick executor of this my last will and testament And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments wills bequests and executors by me in anywise before named, willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.    In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 17^th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and nine    Matthew Butler     Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said Matthew Butler as his last will and testament having been first read over in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses,    Francis F.
