Will of Matthew Butler In re In the name of God Amen. I, Matthew
Butler, of Middle Bight, South Shore in the Electoral District of
Harbor Main, Newfoundland, Farmer, being very sick and weak in body, but of
perfect mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament- First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Eliza all
that I possess (except what will be hereinafter mentioned) viz dwelling house,
goods and chattles, stable, cellar, store, cattle, the old horse ralph, and
my share of my horse rex, also cart, dray, tackling, all my cultivated and
uncultivated land, agricultural implements and all loose gear about my place
for her use and benefit- I also give and bequeath to my wife
all the money I may possess at my death after all my just debts are paid- I
give and bequeath to my grandson Matthew Butler son of my son Thomas
Frederick all that piece and parcel of land situate and being in Fox Trap in the above
district that I bought from Thomas Spry. My grandson
Matthew is not to take possession of the said piece of land, until he is twenty
one years old, my wife Eliza and my son Thomas Frederick are
to work the land up till that time. The said piece of land is
bound on the West by Fagan’s road, south by William Fagan, North by John
Kennedy and East by Henry Fagan- (Listed in the margin next to this will the following)
