Will of Benjamin Butler
from Newfoundland will books volume 8 pages 289-290 probate year 1907

In re
      Benjamin Butler          deceased.

      Brigus Newfoundland February 2nd 1904 This is the last will and Testament of Benjamin Butler of Brigus, Constable. I give devise and bequeath unto my wife Mary Louisa Butler all the money which I own and which is now at the Bank of Montreal in St. John’s, except one hundred dollars which I give to my granddaughter Ellie Butler.
I give, devise and bequeath unto my son William John Butler the farm, known as Brookdale Farm, near Brigus, together with the dwelling house stable and all other erections thereon. I also give to my son, the said William John Butler, the horse and carriage, Cows and all farming implements which may be at, or on, the said farm at the time of my death. I further devise that my wife Mary Louisa Butler and grand daughter, Ellie Butler Shall have the use of the parlour and adjoining bedroom in said dwelling house during the term of my wife’s natural life I also devise that should my son said William John Butler sell or dispose of the said House and farm, he shall pay one third of the proceeds of such sale unto his mother and in case of her death he shall pay it (one third of proceeds of sale) unto my two daughters Mary Eliza Leamon and Louisa Cumming Harvey and Grand-daughter, Ellie Butler in equal proportions share and share alike
I also give to my son William John Butler a Sofa round table and two pictures, viz “Return of the Sword” & “picture of a Farm”    I also give to my grand-daughter Ellie Butler, the chest of drawers, table, bedstead, bed and bedding and all other things that are contained in her own bedroom. All other things not herein mentioned I give unto my wife Mary Louisa Butler and I hereby appoint Capt. William Bartlett and Capt John Rabbitts executors of this my will. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand this second day of February one thousand nine hundred and four Benjamin Butler (LS) Signed Sealed and declared by said Benjamin Butler as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to the due execution hereof John Brien S E Chafe
