Will of Mary Ellen Burke from Newfoundland will books volume 5 page 279 probate year 1888 Last will and Testament of This is the last will and Testament of me Mary Ellen Burke of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland, Spinster. I give and bequeath to my niece Johanna Harding the dwelling house at present occupied by Lawrence Corcoran. To my nephew William Burke of Bay of Islands I bequeath the sum of two hundred dollars. To my niece Katie Burke I give and bequeath the dwelling house in which I now reside and the adjoining house together with all the goods chattels and effects therein. And all the rest and residue of my estate of every description subject however to the payment by my said niece of the sum of two hundred dollars to such R.C. clergy as she may think proper for masses, and the sum of two hundred dollars for such charitable purpose as she may think proper I appoint Mr. John Burke crier of the Supreme Court executor of this my will Witness my hand at St. John's this 9th day of November A.D. 1888. Mary Ellen x Burke her mark Signed by the said Testatrix as and for her last will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the same having been first read over and explained.
