Will of John J. Burke from Newfoundland will books volume 7 page 246 probate year 1903 The last Will of John J. Burke late of St. Jacques, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland. In the name of God. Amen. This is the last will and testament of me John J. Burke of St. Jacques in Fortune Bay in the Island of Newfoundland, Trader. I hereby bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth J. Burke all my estate to have and to hold the same for her use and that of our children during her life; and at her death if any part thereof remains, I will that she divide it equally amongst our children. My estate consists of one fifth share in the business of Burke Brothers including crafts and business premises the house now occupied by me, with all it contains and the land on which it is built and the house formerly occupied by me, now unoccupied. I appoint Denis Burke Senior and Michael Burke junior, executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand at St. Jacques aforesaid, this Fourth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and two, in presence of the undersigned witnesses, who have signed in my presence and in presence of each other. John J. Burke. Witnesses - P. J. McEvoy - W. J. Burke. Codicil. I also will and bequeath to my aforesaid beloved wife Elizabeth, the land on which my unoccupied dwelling house stands which land is bounded on the East by the public road on the north by the land of the Catholic Church on the west by the waters of the Harbor and on the east by land owned by Denis Burke junior, and now held as a garden by my brother Patrick Burke; and one fourth share of the wharf and store which now stand on the waterside of said land. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand at St. Jacques aforesaid this Twenty eight day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and two in the presence of the undersigned witnesses, who have each signed in my presence in presence of each other.
