Last will and Testament
of John Burke
of Tilton Harbour Fisherman Deceased
.

In the name of God. Amen This is the last will and Testament of me John Burke Planter of Tilton Harbour Island of Fogo Newfoundland all other wills are hereby revoked and utterly disallowed. I will devise and bequeath all my money moneys security of monies land furniture and all and every whatever property I may die possessed of unto my Exors. hereinafter mentioned upon the trusts hereinafter mentioned
1st I devise that I be waked and buried in a decent Christian manner and a good stone erected to my memory and also to the memory of my wife and also a high mass for the repose of my soul and the souls of my wife and daughter ????
2nd I will and bequeath to my son Ambrose Burke the property I now occupy here together with all the property I at present own house furniture in a word all and everything I possess this room is bounded on the S. West by my kitchen garden and on the N. East by a rock marked in my name at T. Dwyer's boundary.
3rd. I also give and bequeath to my beloved son Ambrose Burke the property I own situated on Military Road St. John's during his natural life and to his heirs after his death should he die clear of all creditors. And should he die and leave a widow she is to receive eight pounds per year while she remain a widow.
4th I will and ordain that my son Ambrose Burke will give twenty shillings per year for masses for my soul and the souls of parents and friends and also twenty shillings a year for my daughter ????
5th and lastly I hereby constitute nominate and appoint John Burke & Martin Burke my nephews as my executors to this my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand at Tilton Harbour Newfoundland this one thousand eight hundred & eighty six May the 18th 1886. Declared for and as the last will and testament of the said John Burke Tilton Harbour who in our presence signed the same said witnesses signed the same in presence of said testator and in the presence of each other the same having been first read over and fully understood by the same testator John Burke Senr. Testator. John Burke witness Martin Burke witness.
I certify the foregoing the correct copy of the will of John Burke Senr.
