Will of James Burden Senior from Newfoundland will books volume 14 pages 388-389 probate year 1928

In re       DECEASED.
      JAMES BURDEN.

Last will and testament of James Burden the elder of Salvage Bonavista Bay Newfoundland.
I James Burden of Salvage aforesaid being by Gods mercy of sound mind and in fairly good health at this present time this second day of August one thousand nine hundred and twenty four do of my own will and pleasure make and direct the following disposition of all my worldly goods money and all my other property at Salvage and elsewhere such disposals to be effective after my death but to be of no use during my life time (viz).
1st. I leave and bequeath to Mary my lawful wife the original amount of my life insurance policy (viz) one thousand dollars, the balance or paid up insurance of three hundred and sixty dollars more or less to be added to the residue of my estate and if she elect to remain and reside still in the house or if she choose to return to her own children as she please.
2nd. I leave to my grandson Edward in conjunction with Hannah my oldest daughter my dwelling house and waterside premises and to be his in the event of his outliving her, together with four plots of gardens which may be used between him and his father and brother.
3rd. I leave and bequeath to my daughter Hannah the sum of twenty five hundred dollars $2500.00 to Tryphena Nicols and to Clara Hoskins the sum of fifteen hundred dollars $1500.00 each, and to each of the late Elizabeth Burrys three children one hundred dollars, the residue to be divided between Stanley Burden, Owen and Hannah Burden Tryphena Nicols and Clara Hoskins, the daughters to receive half as much as the sons.
4. But it is to be understood that before this division is affected there will be one thousand dollars to be reserved and held in trust by my executors for the purpose of restocking the shop, when if it is found that circumstances will permit it, between Hannah and Edward But in the case of their failing to use in that way then divide as above (at their option).
5. To my grandson James Burden I leave my watch, and to Bertram my breech loading rifle. I propose that my two sons Stanley and Owen Burden act as executors.
