Will of Garrett Brownrigg Senior
from Newfoundland will books volume 9 pages 214-215 probate year 1911

In re
      Garrett Brownrigg         deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me, Garrett Brownrigg, senior, of St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland, Licensed Publican. I revoke all former wills by me at any time made, and I appoint my sons Henry and Garrett the Executors of this my will. I give and bequeath to my son Garrett the house on Leslie Street St. John’s, which I built on his land, and also the portion of my land adjoining his own which he has fenced in with my permission.
I direct that the remainder of my land on Leslie Street shall be divided by my Executors into three equal portions, of which I give and bequeath the Southernmost to my son Henry, and the other two to and between my daughters Mary Elizabeth Comerford and Mary Ellen Carter, as they may agree, and in default of such agreement my Executors shall decide which lot shall be taken by each of my said daughters.
I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth Comerford my mortgage from the Farrell Estate ($2250.00) and to my daughter Mary Ellen Carter my three mortgages from Greene ($800) O’Dwyer ($300) and Irwin ($500) my eight shares in the Newfoundland Brewery Limited and the sum of Four hundred and fifty dollars in cash.
I give and bequeath to my son Henry the sum of Five thousand dollars in cash. I give and bequeath the sum of Two hundred and Fifty dollars to each of my four grandchildren, namely Nellie and Mary (children of my son Henry) Mary (child of my son Garrett) and Mary Comerford (child of my daughter Mary Elizabeth).
I give and bequeath to my son Garrett my house and business premises on Water Street, St. John’s with all the furniture and personal effects therein, and the stock-in-trade and goodwill of my business, subject to the payment by him of my debts and testamentary and funeral expenses, and any sum by which the cash legacies given by this my will may exceed the amount of my dry money remaining after my death, and subject also to his supporting and maintaining in a proper manner my sister Bridget Carroll for the rest of her natural life: and I hereby charge the said debts, expenses, legacies, support and maintenance upon my said business.
All the rest, residue, and remainder of my property I give and bequeath to my said sons Henry and Garrett and my said daughters Mary Elizabeth Comerford and Mary Ellen Carter in equal shares as tenants in common. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand at St. John’s this first day of March A.D. 1910. Garrett Brownrigg. Signed. Published, and Declared by the testator as and for his last will and testament in presence of us, both being present at the same time, who in his presence and at his request hereunto subscribe ourselves as witnesses attesting the due execution hereof: Chas.
