Last Will and Testament of
Alexander Warren Bremner late
of Trinity Merchant

      I Alexander Warren Bremner of Trinity and St. John's in the island of Newfoundland make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills       And for the due performance and execution of this I hereby appoint my wife executrix and my sons Robert Southland and Alexander Hugh my executors.

1st. I wish and direct that the sum of ten thousand pounds ( £10000) curry of Newfoundland being part of the balance now due me by Walter Grier and Company of St. John;s Newfland be invested in the mercantile trade or business to be continued and carried on in Trinity Newfland in common with the said Walter Grier & Co. for five years from the end of the year 1884 according to the terms of the Deed of Copartnership which said business is to be terminated at the end of the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine so far as my interest and my estate are concerned and the said Capital divided and paid as hereafter provided, it being arranged with my son Robert that he is to have one half of my share of the net profits of the Trinity Trade of Walter Grier & Co. Because during the time he is manager thereof and I direct that each said portion of my share of the profits be reserved to be paid to him from my estate before payment of residuary moneys named in article fifth (5)

I desire and direct that all other moneys and effects (except house and land hereafter devised) belonging to my estate at my death be realized and invested in Government or other good security approved of by my executrix and executors and the interest on all be paid annually to my wife for maintenance of herself and out children until the end of the year 1889 as soon after which as possible there shall be paid from the general funds of my estate the following legacies viz To my sisters Isobel and Jessie two hundred and fifty pounds (£ 250) currency each To my wife for her own sole use four thousand pounds currency (£ 4000). To my wife in trust for her maintenance during life and the maintenance of our unmarried daughters four thousand pounds currency, the interest annually for maintenance and the capital to be divided equally at her death between our surviving children and those deceased leaving issue, the issue of any deceased having the share of any deceased parent. To my sons Robert Southland and Alexander Hugh and to my daughters Helen Maria Isabel Marion and Ethel Grace one thousand five hundred pounds cy (£ 1500) each - the bequest for Alexander Hugh to be in trust and care of his mother until he attains the age of twenty one years.

3rd I give and devise to my wife for her use and the use of our unmarried daughters during her and their lives the leasehold dwelling house on Cathedral Street St. John's Nfd and the furniture therein at her and their death the House and furniture to be realized and divided equally between our children - the issue of any deceased to have between them the share of their deceased parent.

4th I give and devise to my sons Robert S. And Alexander Hugh in equal shares all my right and interest in landed property and premises in Catalina.

5th I give and bequeath all residuary moneys and other effects of my estate to my wife and our children or the issue of any deceased child said issue (if any) to have the share of the deceased parent - to be divided and paid them as soon as possible after the final realization of my estate in 1890 or as any remaining portion may be realized thereafter. (if so long delayed) in the following proportions vizt- One fourth each to my sons Robert S. And Alexander H. And the remaining two fourths to be equally divided between my wife and our three daughters or those surviving but the share of any deceased child to be divided between his or her issue if any

Dated and signed in duplicate at London this sixteenth day of March A.D. 1885 - A.W. Bremner - Signed and declared by the testator Alexander W. Bremner to be his last will and testament in our presence who in his presence and the presence of each other subscribed our names as witnesses this 16th day of March 1885.

11 April 1885 I wish fifty pounds cy to be paid towards the funds for building new Church of England in Trinity and twenty five pounds cy £ 25 paid to the Cathedral St. John's C. England Completion Fund. A.W. Bremner I confirm and ratify the foregoing will by my signature at St. John's Newfoundland this twenty fourth day of August 1885 - A.W. Bremner - Signed and declared by the testator Alexander W. Bremner as his last will and testament in our presence who in his presence and the presence of each other subscribe our names as witnesses this twenty fourth day of August 1885.
