Will of Ellen Bowdridge from Newfoundland will books volume 7 page 338-339 probate year 1904

The last will of Ellen Bowdridge late of
St. John's, widow, deceased
.

          In the name of God. Amen I Ellen Bowdridge of St. John's widow do make publish and declare this as and for my last will and testament.
First I will and direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid as soon as possible after my decease.
Secondly. I give devise and bequeath to my niece Elizabeth Ryan at present in Notre Dame Convent Indiana and known as Sister Mary Cosmos in religion the sum of twenty dollars.
Thirdly. I give devise and bequeath to my niece Catherine Ryan the sum of Twenty dollars the bequest however is on the condition that she remains with me and cares for and aids me in my illness I also give her the household furniture and effects on the same condition and as a reward for her services.
Fourthly. I give to Rev. A. Maher of St. Lawrence the sum of twenty dollars for the purpose of celebrating masses for my soul and the souls of my late husband Martin Bowdridge and my late daughter Theresa Bowdridge.
Fifthly. All the rest residue and remainder of my lands, moneys, goods and effects I direct to be sold and the proceeds of such sale, after paying my debts and the above legacies I give devise and bequeath to the Catholic Bishop of St. John's for the time being to be used by him for the celebration of masses for the repose of my soul and the souls of my late husband and daughter aforesaid. I further express a wish that the sum of eight dollars out of the proceeds of such sale be used for masses for the repose of the souls of my father and mother and of the father and mother of my said husband.
Lastly. I hereby nominate and appoint James Louis of St. John's Tinsmith to be the executor of this my will and I hereby revoke annul and declare void all other and former wills by me made. Dated at St. John's this 17th day of January A.D. 1903. Ellen her x mark Bowdridge. Sign published and declared by the said testatrix as and for the last will and testament in our presence who in her presence and at her request and in the presence of each other have hereto set our hands as witnesses the said will having been first read over and explained to the said testator in our presence James M. Kent Mary Donnelly.

          I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will of Ellen Bowdridge.
