A Collection of Newfoundland Wills
(B)
John Bolt

Will of John Bolt from Newfoundland will books volume 5 pages 279-280 probate year 1888.
This will is also recorded on pages 228-229 in this volume. There are some minor differences, possibly errors by the clerk, who wrote it in the will book, but it is the same will.
This is not exactly the same, for instance his grandchildren in the other version are children in this one, and he named a Nicholas Cousins sole executor in this one, and his wife and Violet Cousins joint executors in the other.

Last will and testament of
John Bolt late of St. John's
farmer deceased.

This is the last will and testament of me John Bolt of Waterford Bridge near Saint John's Newfoundland Farmer.
First I give devise and bequeath to my two children Sarah Jane and Elizabeth Winsor all that piece or parcel of land lying between the public road opposite my house and the river, share and share alike, to them their heirs and assigns for ever.
To my grandson John Curtis I give devise and bequeath half an acre of land out of the field in which my house stands, the situation of the said half acre of land being in the east and north corner of the said field adjoining on the east an old road over the hill, and on the north or front adjoining the road to Petty Harbour to him his heirs and assigns for ever.
To the said John Curtis I also give two cart wheels and two axletrees.
I give to my daughter Susan a piece of land thirty feet frontage on the said road to Petty Harbour and running therefrom thirty feet up the south side hill and then across to land on the west occupied by Michael Rielly to her her heirs and assigns forever.
To my wife, Rebecca, I give all the rest of my property real and personal for the term of her natural life, and after her decease I give devise and bequeath the same property now given to my wife to my daughter Elizabeth widow of the late Samuel Winsor her heirs and assigns for ever and I hereby constitute and appoint Nicholas Cousins of South Side Saint John's Cooper to be my Sole Executor.
In witness whereof I have hereby set my hand and declare this as my last will and Testament this fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four. The mark of John x Bolt Signed and declared by the said Testator and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence in the presence of each other and at his request have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the day and year above written. Edward Botwood. John Bibbings witnesses

I hereby that the foregoing is a correct copy
