Last will and Testament
of James Bolan
of St. John's Carpenter Deceased
.

This is the last will and testament of me James Bolan of Saint John's in the Island of Newfoundland builder being of sound mind memory and understanding do this sixteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say first I resign my soul to almighty God and my body I commit to the earth and my worldly goods and property I dispose of as follows. I give and bequeath to my wife Ellen Mary Bolan all my right title interest claim and demand in and to certain leasehold premises namely a dwelling house and garden situate on the north side of Duckworth Street in the town of Saint John's aforesaid To have and to hold all and singular the said dwelling house and garden situate on the north side of Duckworth Street in the town of St. John's aforesaid to have and to hold all and singular the said dwelling house and garden with the appurtenances unto the said Ellen Mary Bolan for and during her natural life and after the death of my said wife I give and bequeath the said dwelling house and garden to my sons William Bolan and Michael Bolan share and share alike also I give and bequeath to my said wife Ellen Mary Bolan all my household furniture beds and bedding and all the rest and residue of my property whatsoever and of what nature or kind or quality the same may be and not herein given and disposed of I do give and bequeath to my said wife Ellen Mary Bolan, for her sole use and benefit. And it is my request that this said dwelling house and garden or any part thereof shall not be sold or mortgaged. And I do hereby constitute and appoint my said sons William and Michael executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Saint John's aforesaid the day and year first above written James his x mark Bolan (L.S.) Signed Sealed declared and published by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto (first read & expld.)
