Will of George Bishop from Newfoundland will books volume 5 page 618-619 probate year 1892

Last will and testament
of George Bishop
of Burin Stipendiary Magistrate Deceased
.

In the name of God Amen I George Bishop of Burin in the district of Burin Newfoundland being deeply impressed with the uncertainty of life, but of perfect mind and memory, thank God for it do constitute this to be my last will and testament. First: I resign my body into the hands of my friends, for decent interment and my soul I commend into the hands of my God in full hope at the last day I shall rise again by his almighty power. Second. I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughters Adelaide Susannah, Charlotte Jane, Julia and Jessie and also to my beloved son Robert, four hundred dollars each and to be appropriated to the education of their children, the said several sums to be raised and levied out of my insurance fund. Also to my son George who is "non compos mentis" I give and bequeath eight hundred dollars to be raised as aforesaid and invested by my executors, my object being to make provision for him, so that he may be well cared for in the event of him surviving his mother. Third. I give and bequeath to my son in law John Q. Collins the sum of two hundred dollars, and to my sister Charlotte Hann now living in England the sum of three hundred dollars to be raised as aforesaid and also I give and bequeath to my brother Daniel's youngest son the sum of three hundred dollars to be raised out of my estate, as my executors may deem most advisable. Fourth. I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Elizabeth Bishop all my interest and title in the business carried on by myself and brother under the style and form of Bishop Co. as my executors will perceive by the books of accounts together with houses, household furniture, lands stores stage flakes, outbuildings all things belonging, or in anywise appertaining to the premises occupied by me. Also my interest in the Boots Shoe Company at St. John's my interest in the Terra Nova Bakery, my interest in the nail factory at St. John's my interest in the Colonial Cordage Co. St. John's and also the St. John's Laundry and also whatever sum may remain of my insurance fund, after the aforesaid amounts are paid together with the stock in trade for the special use and uses so long as she retains her present name but in the event of her changing it (which I think unlikely) the aforesaid property to revert to my unmarried daughter or daughters to be by them enjoyed, and under the control of my executor who will without doubt see justice done to all concerned. Likewise I make constitute and appoint my beloved son Robert and my son in law Joseph Inkpen to be executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills made by me. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand and affixed my seal this twenty fifth day of April one thousand eight hundred and ninety signed George Bishop (L.S.) The above written instrument was subscribed by the said George Bishop in our presence and acknowledged by him to each of us and he at the same time declared the said instrument so subscribed to be his last will and testament, and we at the testator's request and in his presence, and the presence of each other have signed our names as witnesses hereto - signed as witness to the foregoing will. Geo. M. Goddard (L.S.) Robert W. Stowe.
I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and testament of George Bishop deceased.
