Last Will and Testament of
William Batten of Bareneed
Planter deceased.

      In the name of God Amen
This fifteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety. I William Batten of Bareneed Conception Bay in the Island of Newfoundland, Planter, being by the blessing of God in a sound state of mind and memory, but calling to mind the frail state of this life do make and ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it to me, and the disposal of my body I leave to entire discretion of my friends. With respect to my worldly estate I give bequeath and dispose of it in the manner and conditions here following.

First I give and bequeath to my beloved brother James Batten all and singular my land dwelling house, stores, stage flakes and all our property which I claim to occupy both moveable and immoveable:- that is one third part of all my fathers property which accrued to me at his death to him and to his heirs forever without any manner of condition.

Second I give and bequeath to my brother James all money or monies remaining at my decease both in the commercial and Savings Banks and all other private monies whatsoever on condition that he my said brother James pay or cause to be paid to my brother John Ten pounds currency of good and lawful money

Third I give and bequeath to my nephew William Batten son of my brother James my feather bed.

Fourth I give and bequeath to my nephew John son of my brother James my watch.

Fifth I give and bequeath to my two nephews John and Henry sons of my brother James my pew in the Bareneed Church. Sixth I give and bequeath to my two nephews Henry and Isaac sons of my brother James a suit of clothes each to be purchased with money out of my estate.

And I do hereby ordain constitute and appoint my brother James and Abraham Sealy joint executors to this my last will and Testament And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, bequests and executors by me in any way before named willed or bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written. (Sgd) William Batten (LS) Signed Sealed published pronounced and declared by the said William Batten as his last will and Testament in the presence of us the subscribers. (Sgd) George Richards (sgd) Abram Richards.

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of William Batten deceased
