Will of Bridget Bates
from Newfoundland will books volume 9 pages 291-292 probate year 1911

In re
      Bridget Bates          deceased.

      In the name of God Amen    I Bridget Bates of St. John’s widow of the late John Bates deceased do make publish and declare this as and for my last will and testament.
First I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses be paid as soon as possible after my death.
Secondly I give devise and bequeath to my son Thomas Bates all my right title and interest in and to that house No 169 Gower Street and the lands thereto appurtenant the same being the Eastern house on the land held by me under lease from one James Johnson
Third I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Ann Bates all my right title and interest in and to that house No 171 Gower Street and the land thereto appurtenant the same being the western House on the land held by me under lease from the said James Johnstone.
Fourth I also give devise and bequeath to my said daughter Mary Ann Bates all the rest residue and remainder of my goods property estate and effects including my household goods and furniture and my Cottage and farm at Logy Bay of every nature and kind.
Fifth    I hereby nominate and appoint my son James J. Bates to be the executor of this my will.
Lastly I hereby revoke and declare void all other and former will by me made.     Bridget her x mark Bates     Signed published and declared by the said testatrix as and for her last will and testament in our presence who in her presence and at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our hands as witnesses this 27th day of January A.D. 1905 the words “and my cottage and farm at Logy Bay” being first inserted in the twenty third line. The said will having been first read over and explained to the said testatrix John W. Caines     James M Kent.
