A Collection of Newfoundland Wills (B)
John Bastow

Will of John Bastow
from Newfoundland will books volume 7 page 518 probate year 1905

Bastow John.       Last will of.

This is the last will and testament of me John Bastow of Saint John's in the Island of Newfoundland, Farmer. I appoint my son Marldon Allan Bastow sole executor of this my will. I give and bequeath unto my sons John Albert the said Marldon Allan, Ernest Augustus and Francis Olliver Bastow and to my daughter Isabella Helena King and to my grandson John Knight all that money standing in my name upon deposit in the Union Bank of Newfoundland to the amount of nine hundred and forty dollars or thereabouts and the interest and dividends arising therefrom in equal proportions share and share alike. Also I give and bequeath unto my said sons and daughter and grandson all that money standing in my name in the Newfoundland Savings Bank upon deposit and the interest and dividends arising therefrom in equal proportions share and share alike. Also I direct that my said executor shall not pay over unto my said grandson John Knight his share of the monies and estate until he shall attain the age of twenty one years but shall invest the same for his benefit.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand at Saint John's aforesaid this seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety five. John Bastow.
Signed by the said testator John Bastow in our presence who in his presence and in the presence of each other hereto subscribe our names as witnesses Hugh H. Carter    Henry T. Payne.

Correct copy.
D. M. Browning

(Listed in the Margin next to this will the following)
6 Oct/05
Johnson J.
Probate to
M.A. Bastow
21 Oct. 05
Est. $100.00 (this amount is probably not correct)

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
