Will of John Andrews

Last Will and Testament of
John Andrews of Port de Grave N.D.
Mail Carrier deceased.

      In the name of God Amen This twenty fourth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight. I John Andrews of Ship Cove, formerly of Harbor Grace in Conception Bay Newfoundland, being by the blessing of God in a sound state of mind and memory, but calling to remembrance the frail state of this life and that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testament, that is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me, and the disposal of my body I leave to the entire discretion of my friends. With respect to my worldly estate I give bequeath and dispose in the manner and conditions here following.

First. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Rebecca Andrews all my landed property situate at Ship Cove. Also a piece or parcel of land situate at Harbor Grace and measuring twenty feet E by W. bounded on the N by my late brother Stephen's land and on the S by the Sea also my dwelling house, cellar, store, and stable with all other goods and chattels moveable and immoveable to have and to hold during the course of her natural life. And after her decease the aforesaid property willed and bequeathed to her shall be equally divided between my beloved sons John Thos Andrews and Stephen Andrews whom I hereby constitute ordain and appoint executors to this my last will and Testament.

Secondly. I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Mary Ann Sheppard the Mahogany Table. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments wills legacies bequests and executors by me in any way before named willed or bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written. (Sgd) John Andrews (LS) Signed Sealed published pronounced and declared by the said John Andrews as his last will and Testament in the presence of us the subscribers. (Sgd) Isaac Richards. (Sgd) Geo. F. Payne.

Codicil

This codicil to the last will and Testament of me John Andrews made on the Twenty fourth day of December A.D. 1888 I having since the making of the said will made the following alterations. In lieu of the above, in the aforesaid will as regards my son Stephen I devise and bequeath to my said son his heirs and assigns my part of the garden called the Pond garden, also my part of the uncultivated land by the north side of Ship Cove pond and I hereby revoke and disannul my former bequest in aforesaid will as regards my said son Stephen. I do devise and bequeath to his son and my grandson George my feather bed. All the rest of my property goods and chattels except the mahogany table provided for in my said will I do devise and bequeath to my son John Thomas Andrews his heirs and successors. In all other respects I confirm my last said will. (Sgd) John Andrews. Dated at Ship Cove this 6th day of May A.D. 1894 Signed published and delivered by the said John Andrews as a codicil to his last will in the presence of (sgd) John K. McLeod. (Sgd) D.G. Fraser
