INDENTURE OF APPRENTICESHIP
BETWEEN
CLAUDE TUFFIN AND JOHN FARTHING
DATED FEBRUARY 1912

THIS INDENTURE of Apprenticeship entered into at Herring Neck, District of Twillingate, in the Colony of Newfoundland, between Claude Tuffin, minor, aged ten years, with the full consent and approval of his father John Tuffin on the one part; and John Farthing planter, of Herring Neck aforesaid on the other part - WITNESSETH: - That the said Claude Tuffin with the full consent and approval of his father the said John Tuffin DOTH hereby bind himself as an apprentice to the said John Farthing from the date of September 30th A.D. 1911 for the space of term of Eleven years, or untill [sic] the 31st December A.D. 1922. THAT the said Claude Tuffin shall conduct himself as a good and dutiful apprentice ought to do. Houses of ill fame he shall not frequent, gambling with cards or dice he shall not practise, His master's goods he shall not embezzle or waste nor shall he allow others to do so, without using every means to prevent it. The rules of his master's house he shall cheerfully subject himself to and keep good hours and be obedient to, his Master and Mistress, as becomes a good apprentice.

JOHN FARTHING, aforesaid, on the other part covenants and promises the said Claude Tuffin and his father the said John Tuffin - That he will teach the said apprentice the art or business of the fisheries, use his best endeavour to instruct the said apprentice by every means in his power. He will provide food, lodging, clothes, washing and all that is requisite and customary to do for an apprentice and give him what schooling he possibly can for the time and term aforesaid or untill the time expires on 31st December A.D. 1922.

In witness whereof we the said parties hereby set our hands this ___ day February A.D. 1912.
