MUNFLA is the major repository for collected and recorded material in the fields of forklore, folklife, oral history and related aspects of culture in NF and Lab. It accepts collections in all media, including books, manuscripts, microfilms, records, tapes, photographs, films, videos, and computer discs. MUNFLA is recognized as the leading sound archives in the province and accordingly acts on occasion, when it is practical, as a storage and conservation repository for such materials originally deposited in other local archives. In collaboration with the university's Centre for Newfoundland Studies, MUNFLA is the major repository for audio-visual materials relating to the performing arts in the province. Currently, MUNFLA has approximately 50,000 audio tapes, 14,000 manuscripts, 20,000 photographs and quantities of other assorted media. The Archives makes available indexes to the various collections by subject, place, name, etc. A number of indexes are available for such specialized topics as cures, songs and games. Card-indexes are available and those who have access to the MUN library on-line catalogue system may also search the MUNFLA entries using UNICORN. Over 2 dozen cross-collection indexes, and hundreds of individual collections' finding aids are available.
