It is with great sadness the family of the late Pearl Frances Simms announce her sudden passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on Monday, November 29, 1999, at the age of 82 years. She will be sadly missed by her loving family; two daughters, Eva (friend, Alex), Stephenville, Minnie (Bruce), Alabama; three sons, Bert (Flo), Port aux Basques, Lloyd (Christine), Stephenville, Wayne (Debbie), Stephenville; special daughter-in-law, Betty, Rimbey, AB; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rachel Spencer, Harbour Breton, Susie Piercey, St. Albans; four brothers, Frank (Molly), Stephenville, Joe (Alice), Burgeo, Harold (Susie) and John Piercey, Milltown-Bay D'Espoir; sisters-in-law, Eva Rideout (Meadows), Janet Piercey, Port aux Basques and Kay Piercey, Stephenville. Also leaving to mourn nieces, nephews and a large number of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, William and son William, Jr. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 2nd, 2:00 p.m. from St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Hillview Avenue, Stephenville, Rev. Edmund Laldin officiating with interment to follow at the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Donald Hiscock announce his sudden passing on Monday, November 29th, 1999 in his 58th year. Leaving to mourn his two sisters: Rita (Mrs. Tony Stowe) of Pasadena, Linda (Mrs. Thomas Hollahan) of Bonne Bay, Big Pond and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Pearl, July 1987 and Morris, July 1988, brother Edward, May 1993. The family will be receiving friends at St. David's Anglican Church, Pasadena, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9, followed by the funeral service Thursday, December 2nd at 10:30 a.m. with the interment at the Church Cemetery. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frederick William Mills announce his passing at Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls on November 30th, 1999 at the age of 79 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife, Viola Mills (nee Osmond); three daughters: Gladys (George) Lomond of Port aux Basques, Linda (Les) Giles of Bishop's Falls, Patricia (Calvin) Leamon of Prince George, BC; three sons: Larry (Marilyn) Mills of Wabush, Labrador, Fred (fiancee April) of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Clayton (fiancee Deni) of Duchess, Alberta, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Rachael Alice (Melbourne) Mills and siblings. Family and friends will be received at Fillatre's Funeral Home on Wednesday 6-7 (family only) and 7-9, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9, Friday 10-12 noon (family only). Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 3rd, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from Salvation Army Citadel in Grand Bay with Captain Byron Kean officiating. Passed away Tuesday morning, November 30th, 1999 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site, Clifford "Cliff" Ira Reid, beloved husband of Delilah "Doiley" (Payne) Reid of Hanmer, loving father of Jo-Ann (friend Kevin Anstey) of Hanmer, Dawn (husband Rod Roussel) of Sudbury, Austin (wife Sheila) of North Bay, Carolyn (husband Milt Hewlin) and Norma (husband Stan Patey), both of Newfoundland, dear poppy of Devin, Shelby, Abbi-Lynn, Kerry, Troy and Thor, dear son of the late Corbett and Amy Reid both predeceased, dear brother of Violet, Rhoda, Myra and Cec, all of Newfoundland, Rosie of Nova Scotia and the late Susan, Felix and Rol all predeceased. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Funeral service in the Lougheed Funeral Home, Hanmer/Capreol Chapel, Michelle Dr., Hanmer, Friday, December 3rd, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the Valley East Cemetery. CHAISSON, Theresa Josephine

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Theresa Josephine Chaisson (nee O'Quinn) announce her passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on November 30th, 1999 at the age of 86 years. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her: sister Jenny Shumpt; brother Frank O'Quinn, as well as a very large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Catherine (Maclean) O'Quinn, her husband Jack Chaisson in 1973 as well as other brothers, sisters and family members. Family and friends are being received at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church in Upper Ferry on Thursday and Friday. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 4th, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church with Father Desmond McGrath officiating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Searston. As expressions of sympathy, flowers and/or donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Passed away after a short illness at Kingston General Hospital, on Friday, November 12, 1999 Bernard Joseph, aged 65 years. Leaving to mourn daughters: Debi Herron, Sue Belanger; sons: Michael and Peter; grandchildren Natasha, Amanda, Mikey and John Paul; sister, Dorothy (Ross) Avery of Eastern Passage, NS; brothers: Doug of Eastern Passage, NS, Leonard of Montreal, Joseph (Ivy) of St. George's, NF; nephews and nieces: Gary (Renee) Norman of Vancouver, Wayne Norman of Sarnia, Fay (Dave) House of Gillams, Rosalyn (Rick) Kingston of Fort McMurray and their families. He will also be sadly missed by Sylvia, the mother of his children. Predeceased by parents Michael & Rosannah Joseph and sister Theresa Norman. Cremation took place on november 15, 1999 at Barrie, Ontario. Donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetic Association or charity of one's choice.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late James John Gale announce his passing on Wednesday, December 1st, 1999 at his family residence in his 81st year. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Annie; one brother Elias Gale of Sops Arm; four brothers-in-law: Frank (Cecila), Tom (Floss), Hubert (Marie); all of Sops Arm and Fred (Gertie) of Deer Lake; one sister-in-law Patricia Ricketts of Sops Arm. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. James was a member of the Orange Lodge. It is with regret that the family of the late Elizabeth Jones announce her passing at the Lincoln Place Nursing Home, Toronto, on Tuesday, November 30th, 1999 in her 92nd year. She will be sadly missed by her loving family: sons: Robert (Shirley) of Dartmouth, Walter (Carol) of Corner Brook, Frederick of Toronto and Harry (Marie) of Cox's Cove; daughters: Dorothy Thompson of Dartmouth and Mary Wildefong of Toronto; special granddaughter, Kimberley Thompson of Toronto, with whom she resided; special grandsons: Fred Jones of Gillams and Lloyd Thompson of Ontario; 37 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by her husband, Samuel in 1961 and by her children, Lloyd, William, Cornelius, Providence and Alice. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Hazel. Daughters: Margaret (Eddy) Gillingham of Corner Brook and Drucella (Melvin) Cassell of Harbour Deep. Four sons: Edgar (Gay) of Deer Lake, Tony (Barbara) of Yellowknife, Dwayne of St. Anthony and Jamie of Deer Lake. 10 grandchildren: Andy, Roger, Trevor, Tammy, David, Dayna, Damien, Bradley, Cody and Chantelle. Two brothers: Stanley and Sidney. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother George on Feb. 27th, 1998 and his sister Delilah Loder in Nov. 1997. DUNPHY, Patrick William

Patrick William Dunphy
of Dartmouth died December 8, 1999 in his 76th year at the Q. E. Two Health Sciences (Victoria General Site) in Halifax. Born in Curling, Newfoundland he was a son of the late Thomas and Mary (Rockett) Dunphy. He received his high school education at the Sacred Heart School in Curling. He went to work at Furlong Bros. Herring Plant and Coombs Department Store before joining the firm Humber Motors Ltd. in 1954. In 1964 he purchased the automobile dealership from the estate of his father-in-law, and continued to operate the same until 1978 when he sold the company to Derek Young C.A. He was a member of the Archbishop Howley Council of the Knights of Columbus for many years and was an Honorary Life Member. He was also an Honorary Member of Rotary International. During his years in the automobile business he served a term as president of the Newfoundland Auto Dealers Association and was a director of the Canadian Auto Dealers Association, he also served as a director of the Ford Dealer Advisory council. During his business career he also served a year as president of the Corner Brook Chamber of Commerce and a director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are his wife the former Dorothy Wiseman, one daughter Barbara MacEwen (John) and their children Patrick and Lori-Beth all of Dartmouth. Also surviving are his sisters Gertrude McLennan (John), Joan O'Driscoll (Francis) and brothers Gerald (Grace), William (Irene), Kenneth (Renata) and a large circle of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Rita Milani and brothers Francis and Harold. Visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00-9:00 (Thursday) today in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church (Maple St. Dartmouth). Cremation will follow with burial at a later date in Oakridge Cemetery. Family flowers only by request in lieu donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

PARDY, Harvey Junior

Passed away peacefully in his home on the 9th of December, Harvey Pardy Junior, after a 9-year struggle with leukemia. His strength of character and caring heart endeared him to many people. While his final years were not peaceful he was at peace. At peace with the difficulties he had to face and at peace with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Harvey is lovingly remembered by his sons: Harvey L. J. Pardy (Brenda) and Larry G. Pardy (Sharon), his step-daughters: Tammy Graham (Andy) and Tara MacCullum (Danny), his grandchildren, his brothers and sisters and countless other family and friends. Harvey loved the Lord and found his strength is Him. The race that was set before him he ran with endurance and finished well. Mr. Murphy will also be missed by the families of the brothers and sisters of Mrs. Marcella Murphy (nee Mullins), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends here and away. Mr. Murphy was predeceased by his wife Marcella in March 1994. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, December 29th, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. from the Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church on Mt. Bernard Avenue, continued to the Receiving Chapel at Mount Patricia Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 10-12 noon. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Melvin Alfred Sheppard announce his passing on Friday, December 24th, 1999 at the age of 58 years. Leaving to mourn: his wife Rhodena; three sons: Perry and his wife Theresa, Lark Harbour, Martin and his wife Donna, Alberta and Dwayne and his wife Matilda, Alberta; six grandchildren; Cheryl Lynn, Cole, Jordan, Jenna, Brittany and Kyle; eight sisters: Ena Murrin, British Columbia, Sybil (Frank LeMaire), Louisiana USA, Doris (Ivan Byrne), Lark Harbour, Lottie (Norman Childs), York Harbour, Phyllis Kendell, Nova Scotia, Hilda (Albert Wheeler) Corner Brook, Joan (Gordon Youden), Lark Harbour and Rhonda Walsh, Alberta; three brothers: Harvey, Lark Harbour, Bernard, British Columbia and Gregory, Alberta; three very special little buddies: Jimmy, Adam and Travis and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son Clement (March 1974), mother Eva (July 1987), father Evertt (September 1991), brothers-in-law: Gordon Kendell (May 1991) and Clyde Murrin (December 1993). The family will be receiving friends from St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour beginning at 12:00 noon Thursday from where the funeral service will be held on Friday, December 31st, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Levina (Livie) (nee Chaulk); three daughters: Wavey (James Chipp) of Pasadena, Maunda (Rick Roberts) of Cormack and Barbara Bradley of Slave Lake, Alberta; one son Gary of Deer Lake; three grandchildren: Heidi Pavelka and fiancé Derek George of Pasadena, Andrew and Mitchell Roberts both of Cormack; six sisters: Lilly Hawkins of Mt. Pearl, Ethel Lockyer of Scarborough, Ontario, Winnie Crocker, Effie Chancey both of Swift Current, Minnie Furey of Texas and Alfreda Turachek of California; one brother George Barrett of Swift Current. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away at his family residence on Tuesday, December 28th, 1999 at the age of 78 years. Left with fond and loving memories are his loving wife Lily (nee Vincent), and his dear daughter, Sherry. His three grandsons: David, Darryl and Timothy and granddaughter, Destiny Faith. He loved them all dearly. Also leaving to mourn 3 brothers: Walter and Stafford (Pearl) residing at Gander, Maxwell (Fay) residing at Lower Sackville, NS. Two sisters: Emma Laing residing at Gander and Louise (Harris) Robinson residing at Lower Sackville, NS. He will be also missed by a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Wellington Funeral Home, 31 Wellington Street, Wednesday during the hours of 7-9 p.m., Thursday during the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 and Friday during the hours of 10-12 noon. The funeral service will take place from the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church on Elizabeth Street, Friday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Andrews officiating. The interment will take place at Mount Patricia Receiving Vault. Tributes may be made by making donations to the Janeway Children's Hospital. Passed away Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, James MacDonald, at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his wife Kathy, daughter Marjorie, two brothers: Tom and Frank. Left to mourn are his sons: Dave, Howard, Tony, Gerald and Raymond; daughters: Kathy and Marie; 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; his companion Jessie Vokey and her family: Roy, Ivy, Fred, Henry, Emma, Gerald, Joseph, Darren; and numerous other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 31st at 10:30 a.m. from the Most Holy Redeemer Cathedral, Mt. Bernard Avenue, Father Peddle officiating, followed by the interment at the Mt.
