It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Oscar Abbott announce his passing on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 92 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his combined family; Glen Abbott-predeceased (Loretta), Janice Marshall (Chris), Curt Abbott (Ellen), Chris Abbott (Marla), Joanne Abbott (Byron), Julie Sheppard (Dave), Jeanne Colbourne (Steve), Suzanne Abbott, Gary McCarthy (Audrey), Elizabeth Hayden (Ron-predeceased), Terry McCarthy (Rhonda), Molly McCarthy Senebald (Stretch - predeceased), Trudy McCarthy (Bob), Rosalie MacNeil (Keith), Margurita Wood (Jim), Janie Munroe (Bob), Patricia Ferguson (Barry), Georgina St. George (Gerry), James McCarthy, a large circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. Also left to mourn, special sister-in-law Ivy Abbott, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Jane (Jen), parents Lewis and Vashti Abbott, brother Wilfred, and sister Ena Rowsell (Ken). Cremation has taken place. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Christopher Anderson announce his passing on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Health Science Centre in St. John's at the age of 62 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his special friend Marilyn; children: Christa, Billy and Melody (Ian); siblings: Isaac (Carol), Clifford (Judy), Lori (Albert) and Terry (Julia); step-mother Mary; grandchildren and other relatives and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ralph Roy Anderson announce his passing on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 66 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his only daughter Jillian Anderson; brothers and sister: Scott Anderson (Daphne Nolan-Anderson), Kirk Anderson Jr. (Jennifer Anderson) and Nancy Anderson (Doug Forbes); longtime partner Leah Lawlor; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Capt. S. Kirk and Frances "Alfreda" Anderson. , passed peacefully away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at his residence at the age of 73 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Glenys, of 49 years. His children: Marjorie, Jeannine and his son James (Bobbi). His grandsons: Ben, Shawn, James, and William. His granddaughters: Tanita, Candace, Amanda, Tamara, Samantha, Amelia, Angelina and Anastasia and his nine great- grandchildren. His brothers: Byron, Sam, John, Frank (Mary), Terry (Louise) and Gordon (Judy). His sisters: Joan, Ena (Ray) and Mary (Derrick). Brothers in law: Sterling, Gerald, Ross (Diane) and Norm (Ann) and a large circle of niece, nephews, other relatives and friends. James was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Majorie Batt, his in-laws Aaron & Annie Peddle and his grandson Matthew. At James request, cremation has taken place. Predeceased by husband Murdock Acorn (WW2), husband Preston Belbin, parents Samuel and Dulcie Belle White; brothers Willis (Marguerite), Oliver (Levie), Albert (Sadie), and Harold; sisters Mary (Joe) Harnett, Violet (Cecil) Sparkes, Mabel (Gordon) MacDonald, Mildred (Alfred) Barnes, Myrtle (Raymond) Cole, and granddaughter Melissa McGinnis. Leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories sons: Gordon (Remona) Acorn, Alister (Rosalind) Belbin, Eric (Deborah) Belbin, Stanley (Gloria) Belbin, and Wade (Wavey) Belbin; daughters: Trula (Ken) Alexander, Peggy (Tony) Sullivan; brother: Raymond (Gertie) White, sisters-in-law Margaret White, Viney Belbin and Cecelia Belbin, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a large number of nieces and nephews. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lynda Marie Bernard announce her peaceful passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on December 7, 2017 at the age of 68 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 47 years Frank Bernard. She also leaves to mourn her son Colin Hillier (Pearl) of Howley; daughter Brenda Hunt (Damian) of Ontario; step-daughter Jennifer Keast (Ronald) of Ontario; grandchildren: Christopher (Felecia) & Brandon - their mother Deanna Hillier of Pasadena; grandchildren: Crystal, Jimmy and Jennifer; step-grandchildren: Brittany and Amanda of Ontario; 2 great-grandchildren; and also a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Lynda was predeceased by her mom and dad, Frank and Carol Hillier. It is with heavy hearts but with profound thanksgiving for a life well lived that the family of Madeleine Bishop announces her peaceful passing on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late Andrew "Andy" Bishop (2004). Cherished mother of Maureen Carter (Gord), Doris Maxwell (Fred Pitt), Gregory Bishop (Deanna), Karen Trasmundi (Tom), Suzanne Ottaviano (Maurice) and the late Keith and Jocelyne Bishop. Proud and loving grandmother of Nicole, Kathryn (Jason), Sammy (Sara), Danny, Adam (Spencer), Justin (Maxine), Kyrstal (Jeff), Vanessa (Kash), Nathan (Annie) and the late Travis. Great-grandmother of Hailey, Jake, Ryan, Layne, Arkell, Elie, Tevan, Serenity, Ethan and great great-grandmother of Toby. Madeleine devoted her life entirely to her family and loved them more than life itself. She leaves a legacy of love, kindness and strength through her family that is beyond measure. Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate and honour Madeleine's life will be held at the H.L. It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of Edmund Lawrence Dewey of Deer Lake on Monday, December 11th 2017 in his family home at the age of 79. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his children: Carole (Keith), Brenda (Andre), Richard (Penny); 7 grandchildren, Lee (Angela), Zachery, Samuel, Megan (Taton), Cory, Andrew (Penny), Logan; 1 great-grandchild, Rosalie. His siblings: Yvonne, Margaret (Fred) and John and special friend Gertie. Edmund was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Linda Joy Dewey; parents John (Jack) and Meta Dewey; Mother and Father-in-law, Muriel and Amador Chaulk; and sisters Myrtle and Jackie. Edmund also leaves numerous other loving family members and dear friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Claude Doiron announce his passing on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Corner Brook Long Term Care at the age of 64 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughter: Jessica (Tom) Couture; grandson: Liam; sister: Jeanette Litnewski; brothers: Paul and Roger Doiron, and a circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife: Beverly; parents: Edward and Florence Doiron. DUNPHY, Mary Theresa

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Theresa Dunphy announce her peaceful passing on December 29, 2017 in her 97th year. Mary leaves behind to celebrate her remarkable life her three daughters: Marilyn Saito, Joanne (James) Peddle, and Peggy (Gerald) Malone. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Mary Lynn (Tim) Patton, Kimberly Rideout, Stephen (Miyake) Peddle, Michael (Jacqueline) Peddle, Catherine (Brian) Scott, Colleen Malone, Thomas (Melissa) Malone, and Erin (Scott) Tiffany. She knew and loved dearly every one of her 17 great-grandchildren: Jordan, Allie, Kennedy, Evan, Beira, Rowan, Celeste, Linden, Alex, Tyler, Kelsie, Leah, Ethan, John Daniel, Abigail, Benjamin, and Charlotte. She will be especially missed by her special friend Karen Robertson, her sisters-in-law Linda Coombs, Brenda Coombs, Gladys Coombs, Isabelle Kaj, Mary Wiseman, her many nieces and nephews, and a large network of friends. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Thomas Joseph Dunphy in 1984 and her parents Thomas Coombs and May (Finn) Coombs, her sister Joan, and brothers Jack, Reginald, Gerald, and Thomas. Mary was the perfect example of a life well-lived. She was Valedictorian and President of her 1942 graduating class at Mount Saint Vincent University. She was a teacher for many years, and wrote for the Western Star (as the only female on staff at that time). Mary loved to travel and explored much of the world with her husband Thomas. She raised a beautiful family and remained an active and vital force throughout her entire life. Mary was a Brownie leader, an award-winning actress in provincial drama festivals, and one of the original members of Beta Sigma Phi (Corner Brook). Mary embraced change and never shied away from a new challenge or opportunity. She was fascinated with technology and was excited about the opportunities that FaceBook provided her as a tool to connect with her friends and family (every day). Mary will remain an inspiration for all those who knew and loved her. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Mark's Avenue in Corner Brook. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 4th at 10:00 a.m. from Cathedral of The Most Holy Redeemer. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice. GALLANT, Richard
Passed on: December 19th, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Richard Gallant announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on Tuesday December 19th, 2017 at the age of 94 years. He is predeceased by his wife Vita Gallant and children Sandra and Barbara along with his parents John and Elizabeth Gallant and 13 brothers and sisters. Leaving to celebrate his life his children: Elaine (Nick) Spracklin, Howard (Rose) Gallant, Brian (Bonnie) Gallant, Anne Marie Vallis, Ricky (Genevieve) Gallant, Kim (Doug) Benoit, Tara (Peter) Hall along with 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 7-9 and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 from Russell's Funeral Home in Stephenville. The funeral will take place on Friday December 22nd at 2P.M. from Maria Regina Parish in Port au Port. Interment will take place in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Port au Port. In lieu of flowers donations to the Bay St. George Sick Children's Foundation or to the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital Foundation in Richard's memory would be greatly appreciated. Richard served in England in the Second World War and was an active member in the Royal Canadian Legion and in the community. His love for family and friends will live thru his children and his stories will forever be in their hearts. The family would like to express great thanks to the special staff at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital who made dad feel at home and truly special.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ann Gash announce her passing on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at her family residence, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 88 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Carol (Bill) Efford, Brian, Marie (Karl) Adams, Helen (Gerry) Lougheed, Vicki Burton, Chris, Mark (Cathy), Paul, Regina, and Joseph (Kelly); grandchildren: Billy, Deanna, Shauna, Jim, Jason, Bobby, Brian, Bradley, Barbie, Mary-Ann, Megan, Connor, Jillian, Isaac, Monique, and Jake; great-grandchildren; daughter in-law Bobbi; brother: Leo, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband James, and sons Terry and Jim. The family would like to send a special Thank-You to the Palliative Care team especially Dr. Lafferty for making it possible for mom to have her last days at home and to her home care workers Amanda and Chantelle. Passed away to be with the Lord in the presence of her loving family on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Violet Goulding, at the age of 86 years. She will be forever remembered by her children: Ted (Holly), Wanda (Graden) Greenham, Marion (Roy) Randell, Wally (Lori), Mike (Lue), Kay (Allan) Lortie, Paul, Stephen (Natasha), Rick (Tina), Pam (Byron) Williams, Bonnie (Stewart) Dickson and Morris (Becky); 31 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister Gertie Barnes; step-siblings: Merrill (Lila) Bullen, Hubert Bullen, Eileen (Hubert) Honeycotte and June Windsor. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, extended family and friends. Violet was predeceased by her husband Garfield, children, Danny, Cora-Lee and Dianne, son-in-law Todd and brother Ted. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Nelson Greening announce his passing on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Palliative Care after a 15-month battle with illness, at the age of 72 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Jennie; daughters: Kim (Mike) Murphy, Kelly (Myles) Timmons; his pride and joy and treasured grandsons: Elijah, Gavin and Ty; sister: Helen; brothers: Tony (Wanda), and Bob (Eileen); mother-in-law: Irene Stagg; 5 sisters-in-law, and 2 brothers-in-law and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Edith Greening; brother baby Norman, and brother-in-law Maben Martin. A special thank-you to his sister Helen, friends Effie Quinton and Maxine Murphy, our neighbor the Mollons for all your support and kindness during Nelsons illness, and special thanks to Dr. Dunn, ICU staff and Palliative Care for all your compassionate care of Nelson. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bernice Hall announce her passing at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, NS on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at the age of 78 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Theresa (Ray) Christopher, Ignatius (Judy), Ramona, Rosa (Sean) House, Francis, Gerard, Anthony (Karen), Edward (Lillian), 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Phyllis (Art) Keeping, Beatrice Wells, Gladys Budgell, Florrie Norman and Ted Budgell. Also leaving to mourn is a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends. A viewing was held at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, Halifax, NS, on December 28, 2017. In keeping with Bernice's wishes, cremation has taken place with internment at a later date.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary Hobbs announce her passing on Friday, December 22nd, 2017 at Corner Brook Long Term at the age of 90 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her son Jim (Juanette) Griffin, Pasadena, daughter Eleanor Hobbs, and the Hobbs family, New Perlican; brother Joseph (Eileen) Griffin, Curling, and sisters-in-law Ida Griffin and Miriam Griffin both of Curling; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband William Hobbs, brothers Patrick, Anthony and Gerard (Sonny); sisters Margaret (Charlie) Martyn, Gertrude (Tom) Furlong and Kathleen (John) Hearn; and parents Patrick and Mary Griffin. The family would like to send a note of thanks and gratitude to the nurses and LPNs on the 3rd floor, Corner Brook Long Term Care. It is with great sadness that the families of Barbara Ann Hynes nee Walsh announce her passing at the Rufus Gunichard Health Centre, in Port Saunders, NL, on Sunday, December 17th, 2017, in her 68th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons; Brent Walsh (Cathy), Jamie Caines (Dawn), and Jamie Hynes, her daughters: Vanessa Reid (Gordon), and Amanda LeRoy (Rob), her grandchildren; Paige and Rachael Walsh, Taylor and Grayson Reid, Chole LeRoy, Sarah and Charlotte Hynes, Rilynn and Lukas Dewit, her only living brother; Mike Walsh (Mildred) whom she loved dearly. The relationships made, forever remained important to him and were never diminished by time or distance. Like his legacy, Gilles' personality was larger than life. His cheerful, lively and humoristic charm, made his presence very well-known and loved in his gatherings with friends and family. Gatherings that always included his love of music, singing and playing guitar. Gilles could be counted on to share with us his amazing renditions of his country and Irish-Newfoundland favorites. It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald Payne announce his passing at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Center on Dec. 12, 2017 at the age of 94 years. Ronald was predeceased by his parents: Albert and Winnifred Payne, son: Rick Payne (wife Carmel), and sister: Minnie and brothers Harold and Reginald. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary "Polly" Payne (nee Park). His daughters: Karen Hussey (Terry), Vicky Holwell (Wayne), Penny Parsons (Rick); his furry friends, Lemon and Bailey, whom he loved and adored. His grandchildren Alicia Harrietha (Chris), Nikki and Stacey Payne, Dusty Hussey (Tamara), Stephanie and Kelly Holwell. Poppy's adored great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Jace, Liam and Vincent. It is with sad and grieving hearts that the family of the late Tracy Ann Sheppard (nee Vincent) announces her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday December 4, 2017 at the age of 46 years. A courageous woman who fought a brave battle against cancer and leaves a great legacy of love which will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her devoted and loving husband Dean Sheppard, and their two children Hailey and Travis. She also leaves to mourn her siblings Mary, Ellen (Derrick), Ruby (Bill), Art (Mary), Bonnie (Jerome), Roseanne (Floyd), Louise (Harold), Jim (Judy), Frank (Cynthia), Ted (Wanda), and Nancy (Dan); her father-in-law Gerald Sheppard, brother-in-law Terry Sheppard (Laura), sister-in-law Paula Kendell (Wilfred). Mourning her loss is also a large number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Arthur and Christina Vincent, mother-in-law Margaret Sheppard and sister Elaine Park, brothers-in-law Eric Humber and William O'Keefe. At Tracy's request, cremation has taken place. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Elizabeth Snook announce her passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Center in Stephenville Crossing on December 19th 2017 at the age of 96 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Albert (Josee) in Quebec, Patricia Ward in Stephenville, Isabel (Wilson) Matthews in Lab City and Mary (Anthony) Smith in Stephenville. Also leaving to mourn ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Mary Joy, her husband Albert Snook and her two sisters Margaret McCormack and Ann Morrison. Visitation will take place on Thursday December 21st from 7-9 P.M from Russell's Funeral Home in Stephenville. The funeral service will take place on Friday December 22nd at 10 A.M from St. Stephen's Parish on West Street with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery on the Hansen Highway.

WALL, Henry Bruce

In loving memory of Henry Bruce Wall, 70 Years, Thursday, December 21st, 2017, at Health Sciences North. Beloved husband of Joan (Fitzpatrick) Wall. Loving father of Brian (Sue) and Philip (Dawna). Cherished grandfather of Alexander and Lilith. Dear son of Stewart and Edna Wall both predeceased. Dear brother of Eileen, Mary, Beryl, Doreen, Glenda, Ray and Ern. Born in Howely, Newfoundland, Henry retired from INCO as a hoistman in 1998 with 33 years of service. He loved to help people, especially children. Henry was a dedicated and active volunteer for many years, serving as a Director with the Navy League of Canada, Ontario Division for 30 years. He was a Life Member of the Navy League of Canada, Ontario Division and Sudbury Branch, a member of Royal Canadian Legion Falconbridge #336, a Past Governor of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Sudbury Branch #230, a past member of the Ontario Mine Rescue with INCO and he received the Priory Award from St. John Canada as well as the Governor General's caring Canadian Award. The family wish to thank the staff of the HSN ICU, especially Henry's doctor Theresa Mirka for their excellent care and compassion. At Henry's request there will be no visitation or service. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. A celebration of his life will be held at the Moose Lodge at a later date. Donations to the Children's Wish Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.

WISEMAN, Roy Frank

1932 - 2017

It is with a deep sense of sadness that Joan has had to say a final farewell to her husband and best friend of 64 years. Roy left this world on December 2, 2017 at Corner Brook, Long Term Care after a fight with Pneumonia. He has left behind his wife Joan, daughter Lynne (Paul), grandson Jarrod (Candice) of England, granddaughter Hailey (Logan) of Ontario, and only great-granddaughter Scarlett. Roy left behind sisters Dorothy, Tres, and Shirley, brother Les, and predeceased by brother Kevin. Roy also had numerous step-sisters and brothers and their partners some of whom have passed. In a closer circle are his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A very special and heartfelt thank you to Daphne for selflessly spending the last couple of nights with him. A special mention and thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Long Term Care. Visitation will take place from Fillatre's Funeral Home 4 St. Mark's Avenue on Monday, December 4th from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. From where funeral service will take place at the Chapel on Tuesday, December 5th at 11:00 a.m. with Majors Ed and Luanne Barrow officiating. Interment to Follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the SPCA, which is greatly appreciated by the family as Roy was a great animal lover.
